Hey guys,
I wanted to ask, are any of you into XMODS?
I ask this because I'm interested in opening up a discussion about them here, since an old forum that I used to moderate (we're kind of in a knot), one of the premier forums for XMOD discussion, recently went down. We were recently hacked by some script hackers... That said, I'd like to open up a thread for XMODS discussion here, as well, if any members here at RC Driver are also members of the forum that I'm talking about, don't be afraid to show yourselves!
PS. You may notice that I'm not directly posting the name of the forum that I came from, I'm just trying to protect RC Driver from word-linking, incase those hackers try to link to this forum, since we both operate under the same forum host. I hope you guys can understand.
Thanks in advance.

Yep, I have two of them, and enjoy using them indoors during the winter months to keep the RC bug happy.

i have an Evolution F-150 with all the hop ups. it's ok, but i have had some issues with it. i cannot comment on the cars, but the truck line really needs more torque. All in all though it's a pretty decent runner.

I agree. It doesn't help though that I spend money on them during the winter months while I'm supposedly trying to save up for something else to get my 1:10 runner ready to go in summer ;)

Well, the XMODS line could use a LOT better electronics. The first generation, the non-Evo (Evolution) series had the turning radius similar to that of a full-size car. The only remedy was called a tight-turns mod where capacitors are soldered inline with the servo leads allowing for full servo movement.
As for torque and overall motor performance, most XMODDERs actually solder in stacked FETs or an external 'turbo' (basically, a daugterboard FET), either one called a Woah Nelly or a V2.2 board. After that, lower turn motors are possible without the possibility of frying your FETs or even your whole components board (we call 'em 'EP'; electronics packages, since its receiver and ESC all in one).

Yeah, I have 6 xmods, I'm a real fan of them. The cars that I have now are a '05 Mustang Evo with all upgrades there possibly is, including lithium, a 85,000 rpm motor, and basically metal every thing, making it top 50 miles per hour. It's miy favorite car, that's why it's my avitar. Also I have two 2000 Civics, one blue the other blackwith tons of upgrades, going about 35-40 mph. The hummer H2 is my only truck, and I made it a one heck of a crawler. Goes over rocks like nothing was ever there. Lastly, I have Bumble Bee and Barricade from the TRANSFORMERS moviethat are un upgraded and just for fun. Now I'm trying to save up for a Titan to make another crawler on a longer, more stable chasis. Spent over $1,000 dollars on these things. And it was worth it.

Hey Arow885, that a cool lookin' place to do some mini crawling. I have an Xmod that's the same as yours with the lift kit and all, but the lift kit with big tires cause it to go through AAA batteries like crazy. I really wished that Xmods would have accepted five cell rechargeable battery packs at around 1100 mAh. But triple A's?! I would have used Xmods longer if they could have taken a larger power source and had better servos that weren't always glitching. One day it was raining outside and I wanted to drive mine, but I wasn't going to feed it triple A's so I gave it a 7.4V Li-po instead! The thing was flying and I even drove it out in the rain! It was shooting water everywhere and I could see steam coming off the motor because it burned off any rain drops that fell on it. :D Then it stopped working. After I let it dry it started working again. :)

i have 3 scion, i want 70 for the first one, and 80 for the other , the 1 6 6 cell with painted chssis and body to match one and the 4 cell has neon and chassis painted to match the color of the car. the stock painted scion is red now, crappy paint but good chassis, all upgrades and have the carbon upper plates for it. the blue one is just a body, and the gray painted one has a 4 cell chassis. the civic you see comes with 2 or 3 bk's and it has scion stock rims painted blue, also have scion bk rims, i want at least 120 for it, has 6 cell chassis

how do you get 40 + out of an xmod?
tormentor3211
08-01-2008, 06:00 PM
Oh, that's easy if you have 200 dollars then, your set. First and most important upgrade is bearings, but at atomicmods.com, you can get ceramic ones which are more durable and faster than sheilded ones, second you need metal dogbones. After get a 7.4 lithium cell for the xmod which will double the speed and bring it to about 30 mph. Then, if you want to go even faster, just get a modified motor. That about gets ya to 40 mph.
But if your lazy, you could just buy this, an atomic cosmo which about goes 35mph:
http://www.atomicmods.com/Products/XMOD-Evo-AtomicBuilt-Cosmo__12730.aspx
The xmod in my avitar goes 50-60 mph 'cause I have a lot of underground upgades, wich can be a little pricey. If you want to know more just say so.
FOR I AM THE XMOD KING!!
Trucker_Eric
08-02-2008, 04:32 PM
with modified motors you need modified electronics, aka, fet upgrade to at least 2x2. 6 cell, much cheaper than li po, will produce the same amount of speed as upgrade batteries, just by running 6 cells. i have done this before, although it does run ur motor very hot and may burn circuit boards.:D

add fet's... they allow ur circuit board to run hotter, faster motors.
