What is a Truggy & Buggy?

To start with, I own a T-Maxx a E-Maxx and a Nitro Stampede. We have a great time bashing around. While surfing the net I keep coming upon the terms Truggy & Buggy. What makes a unit a truggy, what makes a unit a buggy.

I'll throw out an answer as best i can...anyone please feel free to add/clarify anything here as some of this is subjective.

In simplest terms, a truggy is a truck and a buggy is any "car."

For a buggy, i would consider anything from an old Tamiya Sand Scorcher to an AE B4 to the Losi 8ight to be a buggy. if it has a car shape and goes off road, you can call it a buggy.

Truggies are a little more specific - they have evolved out of the Maxx revolution, as people raced more and more monster trucks, their platforms evolved to be lower, leaner, and more race ready. What manufacturers started to do it put the maxx sized monster truck wheels and bodies onto a 1/8 scale buggy platform which has a much lower CG than a towering monster truck and voila - you have a "truggy" that is much more race ready. Typical truggies would be the HPI Hellfire, Ofna Hyper ST, and Losi 8ight T just to name a few. Truggies have really taken off in the last few years or so, and now come in all kinds of sizes/scales..

i used to always think that a buggy is most likely to have a wing and a chassis that is i would say "diamond" shape...

A truggy or truggie is a specialized off-road vehicle. Truggy is a portmanteau of the words truck and buggy. The truggy nomclamature is derived from using a truck frame as the basis for the vehicle, whereas a "buggy" would have started from a custom tube chassis.
