I have a couple of nitro trucks and one battery powered truck. I'm new to the rechargeable battery pack thing. The r c stuff I had when I was a kid used regular batteries. What is the best way to store the battery packs, charged or discharged? I did finally buy a nice charger and discharger, I have'nt been able to find out about storage. Thanks for any help.

What kind of batteries are you speaking of? NIMH batteries should be stored with a partial charge and then discharged before you charge them. NIcads should be stored with no charge. I have not had much expeirience with LIPOs, but i beleive they are supposed to be stored with a charge as well.

I've always been told to keep at least half a charge on ni-mh batteries. As far I know though a full charge is fine as well. Just make sure you repeak them before you run to get the most power out when you run your car. I have not heard that you should discharge them after storage before repeaking the pack. I suppose it can't hurt. Although I nave never done that with my car packs most of them are a year or two old and still going strong. I will on occasion cycle my reciever packs on the nitro cars. Hope that helps.

Shawn is dead on; At a minimum keep a partial 20% or greater charge on them before you shelve them for a while. The only thing that will mess up the cells besides overcharging is letting the core voltage on each cell drop below .9V or less. They should be put in the car and run immediately after being peaked for best performance. He is also right that you should peak them again if you don't run them immediately.
They don't have memory and supposedly don't need cycling. I do cycle my batteries sometimes too. It just makes me feel better, even if it doesn't do anything.
