Many years ago, I had a rustbucket of an IH Scout Traveler, and wanted to build an RC version. But of course (this was before the Pro-Line Ambush came out) nobody made a Scout in scale. So I decided to make my own, from 5mm Depron foam, coated with epoxy and sanded, and sanded, and sanded. I put it on a Tamiya Hi-Lift chassis with raised tranny/90 degree clocked motor mods, Diaz leaf springs, narrowed Imex Claws, and made up some white spoke wheels using Associated TC4 rims and the backside of some TLT rims. Motivation comes from a Novak Crawler brushless system. I also installed RC4WD aluminum axle housings, with a straight axle in the rear.

This is the tranny mod. Takes for bloody ever using only a drill and a Dremel.

Much more center clearance, though.

I made locking hubs from some Traxxas shocks and styrene. They're a bit over-scale, but anything smaller wouldn't fit over the wheel nuts.

The driver figure is from a Monster Beetle, with the head from a wrestling figure from Wal-Mart that looks a little like me. I filled the interior with junk and camping equipment. Then I shot the body in gray primer and added a little rust. The rear bumper is built up from soldered br**** and is an exact replica of the original.

Just noticed you can't say "brass" here

Let's just say the bumper is made of officers, then.

Here's an in-progress shot of the body's early stages, from October 5, 2006:

Oct. 24:

And by Nov 3, it was ready to be sent out to have Lexan copies made. A mold was made from the original body, and now, because it's so big, the vacuum table has to be modified to accept it. Once they're available, I'll post up where to buy them.

What's Lexan?

Lexan is the plastic that RC car bodies are made of. They come clear, and you paint the inside of the body.

Evil - Toy knows what lexan is, it was intended as a joke to "OBH".

But he does generally get confused if he can mill it out of aluminum.

Very nice rig, nice to see something different. I believe I was watching this build thread over on Scale4x4. Great work.

Toy - Only 3 posts and you're already starting trouble...lol j/k. Hey let me know how the bumpers are coming along, if you are not busy that is...hehe.

A couple of pics from the Scale4x4 meet in Augusta last weekend:

Out on the 1.9 course, where it did very well except for one damn gate that it just wouldn't scale. Rolled it over twice and had to take a reposition.

But I did take home some hardware. Got the Crowd Pleaser award.

that truck is insane. I am hooked. I'm wanting to build up my old truck as well...now that they're finally making 67-72 F100 bodies!
