Axial is set to release a new truck to the rock crawling scene. The Axial Rock Racer. Should be very interesting to see what updates if any are noted on this truck.

The rccrawlerstore.com has a picture of the Axial Rock Racer. It's very limited to what the specs are but the links look plastic.

Is the Rock Racer is just the RTR version of the AX10 scorpion? I'm assuming probably it is.

nice - looks like a lower cost version of the AX10. I'm all for that!

First post! I actually stumbled across this place when looking for more information on this truck.
For the most part the RTR version seems to be more of a prerunner/basher version of the kit. From what I've heard they've replaced a good portion of the aluminum parts like the suspension links and steering rods with black molded plastic. Also they've replaced the front spool with a differential and added a slipper clutch. There hasn't been any word on what radio or ESC will be included.

Well I'm sure Tower and a zillion other hobby shops will be able to get just the axle so that should be possible. Buy the Scorpion and when parts are available get the axle.

i think its a futaba based radio. Theres still a lot changes that you need to make in order to make it crawl decent. Theres not enough torque in that motor, thats why they call it a racer, not a crawler. You need bent links, cut the foams, front mount tray, small battery, 55 turn motor, driveshaft rings, softer tires, and a few more goodies. It's not that much more to get the RTR, but might as well get the kit with some aluminum goodies. The body clears most of the articulation. I am not too fond of all the plastic, but it will work. The plastic seems like it can absorb a lot of the impact.

I like it, but it looks a little less rigid as the kit (plastic links, etc.)!!! It kinda sucks that the front diff isn't locked and it has a slipper clutch but then again by the pics they had on tcs I like it!!!! :D

I think this is more of a basher than a crawler. Maybe a WK rival kinda thing? If you want a crawler just buy the Scorpion kit. Half the crap that has changed on the RTR "Racer" needs replaced to crawl well anyway. And, if you need parts, I think it's CKRC sells individual AX10 axles and trannies.

I had a chance to get some trigger time on the Axial. Of course as most of us speculated, I would say we are looking at Wheely King competition. The truck is better balanced and can perform better than stock WK. One good thing is the options of the Axial are far more abundant. I feel the truck is well worth the money and can be transformed to the Scorpion with a few mods.
