Well, I've had my RC10 for a while (two years), and I think it would be cool to get some mods for it now. Aside from a cage, the truck is stock. I have a set of Panther paddle tires I want to mount on some cool wheels, and I want a pipe. Besides the pipe, what other mods do you guys recommend? Cheap and simple is how I roll, and keeping the weight low is good too. Which pipe would you guys recommend? I've been looking at Factory Team parts, and their pipes look cool. Torque- or RPM-tuned? I mostly run on my street, dirt lots, and (once I mount the paddles) the sand. Any help and comments you guys can offer will really help. Thanks.

BTW-I am still considering a Monster Truck as it says on my other post. However, I've decided to give the RC10 a second chance as I have been reminded of why I liked it in the first place. Small, light, and fun.

There is a ton of hop-up you can get, you can get carbon fiber parts, graphite parts, aluminium parts, RPM parts.....it just depends on what you want and like.

I want parts that are only for GO, GO, GO!!! I like parts that work well and are inexpensive. I don't want to get super crazy, unless I get super crazy performance. Shocks/springs are one thing I think might be good to put on. What's your take on that for a basher like me? Here are two pictures of my truck. I forgot to mention I bought a Hard Bodies roll cage (not shown) and it is definitely a worthy investment. It looks good and has good coverage. Also, they say it will fit over most bodies.

By the way, when I took these pictures, the truck had only been run once. Also, the roll cage does not fit under my stock body as I had to remove my front body mounts (the screws weren't long enough), and the body never really fit right from the beginning (the exhaust pipe tip is at the wrong angle; it came this way). Still, I like the cage.

Ok, well to start, get some RPM parts, guarenteed agains breakage(A arms, rod ends, anything you can find), carbon fiber shock towers, shock mounting kit, shocks of coarse, receiver box also rpm, 5 cell hump pack, mod the body to fit, get taller mounts if needed, twist the pipe so its at the right angle, and/or add an extention to the pipe tip, not too long, maybe an inch or so, side gard for the throttle servo(not sure if anyone still makes these, but you can make one yourself, not hard to do), steel spur gear,......Hmmmm! am I forgetting anything? if I do think of anything else, I'll add it later.
How is that for starters?

I just thought of something else: my stock rear springs are seeming to go soft. Is this just because the rear of the truck has more weight, or is it because the springs are going soft? Would you recommend swapping out the springs or just leaving them? BTW, are piggyback shocks really worth the $$$, or are they just overhyped? For a basher like me, it doesn't seem like I really need them.

Just a little too much... :D
I'm only a humble basher, and to be honest, I'm not the MOST mechanically inclined person in the world. I know enough to get me by, but besides that, I don't know much. Arms, shocks (etc.), the spur gear, and the batteries seem cool, but...carbon fiber? Dude, I'm not running Le Mans here.
What's RPM's website? Also, just so you know, I was planning on running the truck without the body cuz it makes the truck look like a sand rail. I really enjoy the truck stock, and a FEW mods would make the truck a little more enjoyable. I'm also on a tight budget, and I don't have a lot of time to spare (I do have enough time for the hobby, but the more of my time I can spend running the truck, the better). Thanks for all the info, though. I will definitely look into making my truck even better!

Ahh! that was just a list of posabilities, the carbon fiber shock tower are not that expensive, $10 or $12 each and easy to change and a deff up-grade, spings can be stiffened up by adding spacers and piggy back shocks are mostly for looks, they do work well, but for the price, you wouldn't want to wreck them, you can also get a spring kit that gives for 4 diff compression rates and you can play with the diff ones to give you the ride your looking for,
RPM stuff can be found on ebay or your LHS can get them easy enough, that goes for most of the stuff mentioned. If you want to up-grade your shocks you can get nice aluminium ones for around $25 a set, or look for the ones from the GT kits, they have a goldish colour to them, and are better than the blue ones from the rtr trucks.
That better?

Take a close look at my Gt with the red shock spring, you will see a lot of the parts I suggested....even the carbon shock towers and aluminium shocks.
Oh! I almost forgot, replace any plastic nuts with real lock nuts.....

What pipe do you recommend using? I think that would be the first thing I would change. IMO, I like the Factory Team Smoothie pipe. Seems like something that would work well and look cool.

You were right. Looking on eBay, there are TONS of RPM parts and I've already found RPM front and rear arms (haven't bought em yet) for under $20 (that's for front and rear!). I had no idea parts would be this inexpensive.

I have 6 RC10's, one for show, the pan one you've seen, one for show and go(XTM .18), seen it, then 3 are all stock (one is being rebuilt as we speek) and one with a kick azz Diablo .18 for all go....If I just want to fart around and bash, I use the stock trucks, I want to go crazzy fast, the Diablo one comes out(this one will take flight on an open road with little effort) and if I want to show off, the show and go gets used.....Hows that for being crazzy?
The show truck is just that, probably won't get driven much if at all.

One thing about eBay, shop around, there are some great deals out there to be had and don't just buy the first thing you see, You should be able to get a compleat set of A arms for like $12 or less..
Hint, if its not a buy it now, wait till the last possable second before placing a bid...that way you give little time for some one else to bid over you...

Good thinking. The one's I saw were Buy It Now!, and they were from a hobby shop. I trust the hobby shops more than I trust the individual sellers, and buy it now is is basically guaranteeing a purchase. If someone outbids my last second bid, then I get no product.
So what you're saying is that if I want to bash, I should leave it stock? I guess that makes sense. I would upgrade some parts though. Inexpensive ones, little mods. Any go-fast mods you can recommend (besides an engine swap)?

Put it like this, the trucks works great as is, you start modding it and that cost money, you break those expencive mods and you'll just get pissed off that you spent all that doe for nothing. Don't get me wrong, some mods are worth the money, like carbon fiber shock towers, and RPM parts.
If you stick with stock and you break it, its not that costly to fix. Thats why stuff like all the RPM parts are a good up-grade, you break, they replace, free!
A quick an in-expensive way to go faster is change up your spur gear on the tranny, you probably have a 66t now, go down to a 64t, but you will have to re-ajust your motor mount a little or to go even faster. when you change the spur, change the bell on the motor, go a couple teeth bigger.
2 down on the spur-2 up on the bell.

I'll remember what you said about the gearing. It makes good sense.
I'll definitely heed your words though. I never thought about it the way you do. Thanks for all your help. If I have anymore questions, I'll be sure to put them up. Any more advice you have is always helpful.

I need to get some new bodies, i saw a pic of a guy with a baja truck style body. when i look for bodies i only find the stock style stuff, anyone know of any other styles?

I got this Baja body off eBay with some other stuff, and someone told me it was an HPI body......its a little short for length, so I put the rear mounts on the front side of the shock tower and did a little trim work on the body (cut out sun roof, drs window and scoop), ....moments later, I had a RC10GT BAJA!....
