Hi guys, um what is the cheapest rock crawler out on the market today??

master_of_desaster
02-01-2008, 05:15 PM
well theres only 2 crawlers. the pti goliath and the scorpion. im not sure on the price of the pti machine, but the axial is as follows:

http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXRXH6&P=ML

but i think for the money go for the axial. i know what your thinking...what about the wheely king or the tlt or the clodbuster and txt?! well those arent specific crawlers. they are monster trucks. the cheapest of all i have named is tlt, then the clodbuster, then the pti goliath, then the wheely king, then the txt. so i hope this helps and if you got any other questions about my comment let me know!

The cheapest will be a scorpion, but you can get Axial's newest crawler that is the Rock Racer, which is a RTR and under a good price.

Opps, sorry about the delay to make a reply to you. Here it is:

http://www.tcscrawlers.com/Pre-Order-Axial-AX10-Scorpion-RTR-p-16753.html

It's very nice and not at a high price. Fully RTR and don't need to build anything.

hey guys i have a question about the hpi racing wheelie king, does it really work good as a rock crawler??

JasonC
02-14-2008, 01:56 PM
The Wheely King axles are nice to use and HPI has a crawler conversion kit on the way...you can see it in the news forum.

I have three crawlers that run Wheely King axles and 1 that runs Axial axles.

I'm in the process of building a 2nd Axial based crawler.

The ring and pinion will swap between the Axial and Wheely King.

Benz

hey y'all any one ever heard of New Bright for rc cars and crawlers??

JeLeAk
02-27-2008, 03:45 PM
most builders just use new bright bodies for scale looks, some people use that really big 1/5th scale jeep to crawl but i personally wouldnt after seeing it in action

Benz
02-27-2008, 05:29 PM
I have that one and i dont like it to much

master_of_desaster
02-27-2008, 10:43 PM
they are good entry get-your-toes-wet trucks...but not what most hobby grade guys are after especailly after having a traxxas truck or hpi truck or even a team associated truck

Benz
02-27-2008, 11:24 PM
My new bright jeep rock crawler goes in reverse when i have the trigger in the stop position and i can't figure out but it is. It really is bugging because at first i thought the battery was low on juice but when i put a different battery in that had more juice than the other one it still did that. It is starting to piss me off. Also the rear shock mounts on the rear axle broke off so i don't have any shocks for the rear. The front shocks are still good though. I really need help in trying to figure out it goes in reverse when i don't want it to. So do you guys have any ideas if so, PLEASE HELP ME???  :( :(

i think there are throttle adjustments on the radio you can use to get the right throttle control...that might be outta whack or in ned of adjusting. i personally dont own one though.

one question about the TLT who makes it???

Tamiya made the TLT-1 Rock Buster and TLT-1 Max Climber both basied on the same chassis, they are discontinued right now tho

there will be a new out of the box crawler coming out soon with a brand new chassis CR-01 the box name is Toyota Land Cruiser 40

i would look into that but it most likely will not be the cheapest crawler, the cheapest crawler is going to be somthing on e-bay that someone doesnt want anymore

If ya want the least expensive, I would go with the Axial Rock Racer RTR or the Wheely King RTR, just my 2 cents. And then upgrade when ya can afford it.

I have a Scorpion. I spent about 500 dollars that included the kit, motor, esc, radio and servo. 230 for the kit, 150 for Spectrum radio, 30 for motor, 40 for servo and 50 for esc. I already had battery packs and a charger and paint.

i picked up a used txt-1 for $300 RTR and it works just fine with various free mods done to it

i also had gotten a used clod before and spent maybe $300-400 on it and it was so good of a crawler i had gotten bored of it and sold it, because it would crawl over everything i put in front of it with little effort

The IFS suspension isnt really designed for rock crawling. Great for racing and running in the street or backyard but not on rocks. It can be done like said before but its better to have the axles and suspension you see on the clodbuster, scorpion, and wheely king, Hi-lift, and the upcoming CR-01.

well since the axles of the independent type...unless you got a lot of free time and building skills and tools. i would rocommend getting solid axles from one of the brands i mentioned above...a lot easier and possibly cheaper. i say possibly because i have never done a traxxas rockcrawler.

JeLeAk
03-17-2008, 08:15 AM
bodies are pretty simple anything works, so what ever looks good to you

and as for a frame do what they did build one, doing a all out crawler based on a maxx is prob going to be too much custom fabrication than you want to do... basically all you would be re-using is the diffs, axles, and tranny and thats about it, ohh yeah and some of the steering

but if you want you could lock the diffs on a stock e-maxx and go at it, nothing says you have to have a solid axle to have fun on the rocks

def. a good point anything can work as a rockcrawler. even on-road cars!! :D  but solid axles are more sought after in the rc crawling world and most desirable.

I tryed everything with my emaxx, including 8 tires. It does not work very well on rocks. The weight distribution is way off and center of gravity is way off also. By the time you lower your CG, you lose valuable ride height. It will scrub every where and scrubbing means you need more traction to move. Gears went way way down, I even flipped the chassis, and tryed to just go backwards once also. Nothing worked as well as I wanted. In order to scale those rock walls, I had to gear it back up, and get a high speed run, and was not always successful. I will still use it for wash outs and creek bed walls, but rocks are too much. If I were you benz, I would look at getting a real crawler and not trying to build one out of a maxx or revo. If you just have to build one, do the right thing and get solid axles from the before mentioned links. I think I may use Wheely King axles on the one I build, but it depends on the internal gear ratios as to what I choose.
