ugh, this just disgusts me, the firestorm was a great nitro truck, a fair electric, but c'mon guys!!! ah well, i guess it'll keep happening but with all these choices you might as well tell a n00b to go read the whole dictionrary b4 buying a new truck...arg, sry for the rant, and just my 2 cents, so please comment...oh, link: http://www.hpi-europe.com/news.php?lang=en&issue=2008020505 lol

It looks great. Not really HPI is copying others. Brushless is the "New" thing in the hobby now. Many companies are making Brushless RTR's now. Everyone in the hobby like Brushless so much, so that's why many companies are doing this, making RTR Brushless vehicles.

personally i say it looks bad, but thats just me. Also, it looks like HPI is designing a BL system probably around this truck. ALso, this is the 4th stadium truck that went for a BL rtr, only traxxas has the pede and bandit (and of course the soon-to-come "V-maxx" and E-revo)

What's the complaint? Another brushless stadium truck?
What's wrong with that?

more choices = lower prices - everyone wins. I'm all for it! i noticed the VXL's all just dropped prices significantly. That's a win/win for all of us!

I am all for it. HPI is an incredible manufacturer and I welcome their entrant into brushless. I really like the truck and the body looks cool too. The more the merrier!

I think it's great. I like brushless vehicles. Especially combined with the new battery technology. Reguardless of the 5.9 nitro, I would highly doubt it be anywhere close to a 5b in popularity. Besides you can't beat the torque & ease of running a true gasser.

if you look on the hpi us site under vehicles it shows a thumbnail of the white version. I think i want one for going to indoor tracks that the only run electrics at.

i think it'll really depend on what electronics are going to be in the truck, like the ESC and motor, as well as what types of batteries will fit...

I swore I was going to get a truggy or Cen GST7.7 as my next addition, But I may have to check out the brushless maxx and revo, defanatly worth looking into. As far as bandwagons go, look at everyone trying to get the biggest motor in a MT...cens mamath gst7.7, AE has a new 8.0 out, there are band wagons everywhere. So why pick on the brushless bandwagon?

My .02, but hi-end electric is really catching on, except for 1/8 scale buggy where nitro will always be the deal...so I predict more guys moving to electric so they can races indoors in the winter (I'm in the midwest).

it is indeed, i have switched back to electric from nitro. Brushless is going to start dropping in price pretty radically in the next 6-12 months. Good stuff!!

I totally agree. I also think battery technology in the last 2 years has been huge. The higher capacity is very nice & lipos have proven themselves. Nothing like having an electric vehicle even meaner than any gas powered ever ! Along with run times that will rival any nitro with no tuning.

I don't know about this really, but I want to chime in anyway.
I am new to RC (at least I will be once I get a truck) and I've been trying to decide which truck I want to get. I had already decided that I was going to go electric and then I decided on going brushless. I had originally decided on the Rustler VXL but then I also considered the Stampede VXL. I wouldn't get the Los XXX-Speed T (or whatever it's called) because the parts would all have to be brought in on order from my LHSs.
Having seen that the HPI E-Firestorm Flus is coming out soon, I may pick one of these up. This is partly because the 10T was one of my original choices before I decided on going brushless.
I've tried to decipher the specs for these trucks so I could do a comparison, but I'm new and I don't understand the pros and cons of one over the other.
Does anyone have a suggestion/opinion?

I know most of the people commenting on this aren't noobs anymore (myself included) however, if you remember back to when you were, brushless would have been nice. I remember talking to my local hobby shops and having electric motors explained to me. I originally wanted electric because it would be less maintenance than the nitro. Then the salesman told me how the RTR electric engine would require bushing oil and motor spray, but when the motor went bad, I would just throw it away. Then I would replace it with a better (i.e. faster, because thats what I was really looking for) motor that could be rebuilt. I would have to redo brushes and comm. This is a lot for a noob. Now the salesman says "put some oil on the bearings and you're good and fast. So now the result of having a RTR Brushless is you have a vehicle for the weekend warrior and the avid hobbyist. More sales for the industry, can't see anything but good out of this.

thats the same thing with me. i live in colorado and even if its not snowing its usually pretty cold and windy. plus we have a sweet indoor track in denver ( www.mhorrc.com ) so i can go run up there during those cold winter months. during the summers though ill stick to my nitros.

It's just adding more flavor to the R/C pot on the stove! No big deal.

true that, but IMO the losi thing looks like it had no effort put into, just look at the wheelie bar i could snap that thing with a stock rc18t going of a 6" high jump
looker2756
03-27-2008, 07:59 PM
If you noticed though. The speed-T has street tires & is set-up for on-road type action. In this case I would say the wheely bar works good. I would say jumping any on-road vehicle would cause damage. As with the Traxxas Jato, street tires. I've also seen one attempt to get traction off-road, pretty worthless. I guess what I'm saying is. Even if you could get a set of 44" tires on a Dodge Viper. It's still not an off-roader ...
pedeboi364
03-28-2008, 03:59 PM
lol, true, but just take a look at the ability a jato has on a track with a simple change of tires...

...and im not just saying the wheelie bar, the whole thing looks kinda frail to me... LOL, it's easily crushed by cars that the driver doesn't see while doing speed runs  :D

I do have to agree the losi speed t looks kinda cheap imo but I have a traxxas slash with bl and it rips!!!!!!!!! even with a 7cell! all I broke was a caster block(I think its that atleast) and bent some hinge pins but thats nothing titanium cant fix lol and i have actually riped a tire doing donuts so that shows the power of a brushless system (I have a vxl)
