I just purchased a new mgt 8.0 and I love it. All the power a man needs 4 sure. Only 1 problem the darn thing is running to hot. Ive done every soulution I can think of, It is my first nitro though. I bash with the guy who got me into rc,hes been in it 4 years so I have a little help with it . We have ran it real rich high speed n low speed and ran the factory settings too. I got a temp gun n put it 2 the setting it suggest we compared it with my buddies and it was about 10 degrees hotter than my buddies. Still though im talkin 260 to 280. Im STRESSED I just want to run it without having to stop due to high temps.Gona try to run a different glow plug that AE suggested, im running a cool 1 now though. Im your new best friend if u can help. Thanks guys 4 the support.

I would say 260 is fine. If your that close temp wise. I wuld say just a touch richer & it should be at 260 tops & run in the 250 range which is good.

I just ran it and it wants to stay at 280 -285. I richend it until it wouldnt run then went down from there to where it smoked and startled and the da_ _ thing would have went to 300 if I would've let it. O Well I'll just keep trying. I recently got in to RC and one of the best parts of it to me is trying to figure something out.Im starting to question this setting on my tempgun though, because I know its rich enough. If it stays at 260 I will be happy now. Thanks alot 4 your help.

It now sounds like an air leak situation. There are lots of places for a leak to develop. Causing more air than fuel to enter & making it really run lean no matter what the carb settings. Depending on the size of the leak, a high idle can also follow this problem. Carb seals, crankcase plates, loose head, Crank bearings. These are all good places to look for problems. It's very cool you enjoy all aspects of the hobby. You'll find the issue, I enjoy problem solving, But building is my thing. Sometimes the work part is Fun too !:D
BTW: Back in the day I did have a few engines that ran nearly that hot. The original .25 maxx engines ran hot & I still have 2 Fantom engines. They run hotter than most, but turn like 42,000, So you just be careful with them. I would say normal for them is high 200's like 280+. I never wanted to run them long periods of time for the same reasons you don't like yours running that hot.

First, does AE give you an optimum running temp? Not all engines are the same. The problem with tuning to temp is people rely too much on the temp gun. Tuning to the proper settings is more than just temp as you are figuring out. A hot engine can be the result of other things besides tuning. A bad clutch, improper gear mesh, drag on a drive train, inadequate air flow. Get some help from your freind to get to a proper tune, then start looking in other areas for the cause of the excessive heat. Remember, the air temperature you are running in will make a difference on your optimum running temp. Also, you got a big engine to work with for your first time and typically the bigger the engine, the harder to tune.

Thanks alot for the help guys I really needed it, it was starting to get aggravating. I talked to AE. and they said it was probally an air situation too. The guy I talked to said to get some kinda alchol and spray it on the car anywhere there could be a leak HUH!, never heard that before. He said it would rev real high when I hit the spot where the leak is. Is that safe on the engine? He said if I dont figure out the problem since I just got it a month ago that I could send it in to them and they would figure it out for me. That is the last resort for me I would feel like I was giving up. Im sure with all the help I get from you guys I will be ok.What sucks is we just got hit with a ice storm lastnight so I wont be able to run it for a min.O'well. I'll get back with you guys as soon as I find something out.Later on!

Sounds good. I know what you mean by weather !! Yuck. Our here is about the same. It is fine to use the alcohol trick. It is just very hard to pinpoint a leak on these little dudes. I usually take the engines apart & seal it all up very good. I would say sending to AE is probably the best idea. This way you know it has been fully repaired & for free to boot !! I'll be doing the sun dance with ya'. Sure hope it works ...

Another idea to check for the air leak is fuel lines, and a cracked tank, or the lid of the tank isn't sealing properly. Additionally, make sure when you grab some throttle, you see some smoke pouring out..

Thanks again guys im on the job. Looker your rite why not get it done for free. Being new I might have a time finding out whats wrong. The only thing that sucks is that shipping that tank will cost 50 bones probally, Owell cheaper than buying new stuff if I need it. I still have to see what I can find out on my own first or it wouldnt feel rite u know. Well ill keep u guys posted.

one thing noone mentioned, are you making a lot of high speed wide open throttle passes?this will definetly make it run hotter

No been running in a side yard and street,so i dont really have time enough to get it to a top speed 4 long. If this damn weather would dry up I could get er out and start pinpointing. It has rained or snowed 4 a few weeks now it sucks so bad. Owell life is a waiting game I guess. I'll keep u guys informed. I think I might just get er figured out next time bashing.
how fast does it go??

I dont know wtf happened but we kept tuning it to get the temp down nothing worked. So after a talk with my rc partner he made a suggestion to just run the damn thing until it gets better huh? He thought the motor was very tight when he tried to turn it over with his hands, He suggested it be ran hard for a couple days and it would start to run cooler as the motor was loosend up a bit. And ill be damned it is running great. depending on how im running it , it runs about at 240 to 265.It took one day of bashing the heak out of it . Im new to RC does that make sense to you guys? Anyways ive finally got to put it to the test man its so fast and the thing jumps awsome and you wouldnt think so being as heavy as it is. Thanks so much for your guys support and help.Getting to run this thing like i have been without having to worry about the temp so much has made me that much more of an RC addict.Going to go have a bashing cerimony, Later!

depending on how old the car truck is, it sound like you should clean ur air filter...

It is a new truck and when I first had the temp problem that was the first thing I done. Thanks though! She is running like a sculded dog now and is tough as nails.
