I have been looking into buying a new RC since the beginning of the year. I have seriously underestimated how hard it is to buy an RC without a set idea of what I want in mind. I've finally narrowed it down to 2: a Revo 3.3 and an HPI Baja 5B. I was set on the Revo until about a day ago, when my dad brought up the point that a BIG gas ca would be easier to maintain because of the engine and sheer size. Once I sell my other two cars, I will have enough dough to buy the Baja (I have enough for the Revo currently). I want something that will perform well and that will spend more time running than being worked on. Any help you guys can offer is good. Thanks.

well, depending on what those to sellable cars are and how much you love them really makes the difference here...

To be honest, I haven't used these cars in a while and I am kinda looking forward to freeing up the space. BTW, the cars are an RC10GT Plus and and HPI RS4 Nitro 2. The truck comes with about $100 worth of extra stuff(not parts), and the car is basically stock. They should be on the Bay soon. Altogether, if I get what I want for the car and truck, it should put me at about what I need to buy the Baja by myself. However, my parents said they would pay for half of the Baja if I waited until my birthday. So...now comes the hard part. Which one should I chose?

By the way, I deep down want the Baja...anyone have any feedback on how much maintenance you have to do to that beast? I figure it's probably more reliable and requires less tuning than any nitro out there....

about maintenance there's really not much to do besides clean up moving parts every so often. If ur putting the whole thing away for a week or more you could cycle some WD-40 through the engine, but that's really it!!

You are comparing apples and oranges here though. You have to make this decision because the capabilities of both are far apart. If you can, take the 5B for a test drive. I had that opportunity, and I loved it. However, it is not the same as drive a "normal" RC car. Long drive times are nice, and less tuning is required. If you do break the motor, to repair it is another dimension than repairing a nitro. Just some things to think about. Which ever you choose, it will be fun guaranteed.

i just don't see how you'd break anything that's that big!!! lol

You may also want to consider the space factor. I have nitro 1/8th and 1/10th scale cars as well as a 1/5th scale buggy. I can run the smaller cars on the street or in the yard, but the 1/5th scale I have to go find a field. They are huge and require a big space to run. If you have the space, the 1/5th scale cars, to me anyway, seem to be more forgiving than the smaller cars.

That is actually the Baja 5B SS, a way more expensive full kit version that HPI vamped up and brought out for the hardcore... That version would be bad A to have!
