Well it's finally time for me to build an Axial, not sure why I have held off on getting one, now that I have one I could kick myself for not buying one sooner.

Yes I love to organize.

I'm actually quite surprised how well it went together, it's almost like Axial designed it for my HellCAT series.

and the Lexan proto-type, keep in mind the yellow is only the template and the final retail version will have aluminum rails, I'll keep the proto-type for myself.

Hey, kool truck, got any pics of that back yard of yours, it looks as if it were ment for crawling, was it made just for that?

Why I'm asking is because I'm a landscaper and it may just give me some ideas for future projects.

Tell me more about the chassis. I just built a Axial Scorpion and it looks cool but personally I think it sits high and with the battery the COG is very high, but your chassis drops it down alot. How much for a chassis and what else would I need? Can you put a dig in it? And I thought I was going to keep it stock, lol. I like that chassis!

Well I'm currently prepping the cut aluminum. The chassis should be ready to ship first of next week. This is really a scale appearance chassis, it's not a Comp Crawler, it's meant for Scale builds that people want to drive on the rocks. I do plan to compete with this rig so we will see how it fairs come the 30th. As far as a Dig, well anything is moddable.

Don't you just love it when you spend good money on quality paint and it just peels right off. This is the last time I buy Tamiya Paint, I know plenty of people swear by it, but man I have had nothing but problems with it. This was Tamiya Polycarbonate and not only did it not stick at all to the styrene, but it's not sticking to the polycarbonate and I degreased it and hit with 600 grit, this kind of kills my hopes of using a poly paint as a primer, now I just have to hope the primer/filler and top coat can handle the abuse, pactra only for polycarbonate for me.

Oh and I have had major problems with Tamiya White, Tamiya Black and Clear for plastics. JACC is being repainted because Tamiya Clear pealed and fogged. I'll go back to duplicolor.

http://www.ripper7racing.com/myimages/ax10/kreaky/kreaky_20.jpg

Primer/filler, boy I hope this hardens enough to resist some rock abrasion, I doubt it, but it was all a learning lesson and I'm still very pleased with the styrene lexan mix.

Well here she is, next is the aging process, I love aging paint jobs, no worries about prep while paint, any screw-ups become perfect rust spots...LOL

I do still have worries about the paint adhering well because of the Tamiya polycarbonate, but since I know that paint will stick using pactra as a base coat I'm not to worried, the real test is the polystyrene.

I just have bad luck with Novak, always have, I love their ESC's when they work for me. It was the Novak Rooster Crawler, brand new, maybe 20 minutes total, no more than 5 minutes at a time. I had an extra Tamiya and I just ran that, I had planned to swap to an LRP so I can waterproof it, but I had hoped to use the Novak in something else, oh well I knew I should have sold it......:(

So I'll get some action shots when I get the camera in tomorrow. But for the few minutes it was running the body took impacts and tire rub really well.

Well for the record I prefer the Associated A.I. Automatic Super Reverse ESC (http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&W=000659676&I=LXHSV8&P=K) It's not waterproof out of the box, but with a bit of silicone and tape it is. It is more expensive, but it's a night and day difference from the waterproof and it has thermal shutdown so if water does get it in it won't fry. I have drown plenty so I know for a fact it can take a beating.

Oh and no reverse delay, strong brakes until the motor stops, than instant reverse to save the gears in the drive train.

The Novak did have a bit of an aggresive brake, a little to aggresive for my tastes.

The cheaper LRP is a fine ESC for 40 bucks, but the Reverse Delay is annoying, I wish they would have done the standard double tap reverse.

Well I'm happy to say that after an afternoon in the bacjkyard all the styrene is still in place, the fenders stayed, the grill is still there, the bumper survived, I did loose the winch in a roll over but it's been repaired and put back on with epoxy putty. This truck survived a beating, not just on rocks but on concrete. I rolled over many things hitting the front bumper and dragging it, I rubbed the fenders on the rocks and on the tires, I rolled the truck several times.

The only visible damage so far is some minor paint chips, the same thing I would see when I roll a hard body.

The cool thing is, where it chipped it looks like primer because of the grey inside the body.

http://www.ripper7racing.com/myimages/ax10/kreaky/day1test/damage003.jpg

I'm actually shocked that I was able to scrap the door handle along side a concrete rock, enough to reshape it a bit yet the glue held, allright Testors.

The best part is if you do decide you don't like the primer look it's pretty easy to fix.

Glad you all enjoyed the video, I enjoyed using the new camera.

I will admit that the backyard is covered in a fine dirt which can make traction an issue at times, but my Moabs do do better than these lizards, Axial should look into a softer compound, but for an included tire they do Ok.

Well I worked all day friday in the yard and even managed to rough in the new obstacles for the last part of the backyard.

We decided to Easter with the kids on Saturday, bad weather was suppose to be on it's way for Sunday. So what to do while I wait for the eggs to boil, hmmmmm, maybe do a little mudding and crawling.

Well who knows, if it goes well I may just start building customs and selling them, I know there's not much profit if any but I really enjoy the building the most.

ripper do you think i could do the same with a wheely king, but i like the idea of keeping the steering servo in the same location for that realizim look

Again sorry for the slow replies on here, been a busy summer, just trying to find time to go to and host comps is taking up most of my free time.

Just FYI, R7R is under going changes, it will soon just be my Racing Team and RHOC, I will do what I can to make it easier to contact me through R7R.

I make the HellCAT WK-7 for the Wheely King.

http://rcdriver.com/forums/showthread.php?t=842

The Axial version is based on it.

A chassis mounted servo is possible but not using HPI's redirect setup, it would just look really wierd. The servo would mount up front with a drop down arm. Now the bump steer would be an issue on a 2.2 and will kill performance, but on most really scale vehicles that won't matter, they tend to not have much tire clearance. Otherwise I recommend the WK-7 servo Mount and for better performance the battery tray, it's all designed to work together and is Comp tested.

The Site is still closed, we are under going major changes and adding new equipment, feel free to email me
