View Full Version : Is this the weak link in the LST2???

I have put 2 drive pins in the tranny of my LST2 in the last 3 weeks. The first one went without hardly running it. I broke the second yesterday after installing a t-nitride high speed conversion. Is this the bane of the LST2? I hope not even though it is an easy fix it is a pain in the ?#@ to get the tranny out and apart (messy also). Does anyone know of stronger pins to replace these???

hey whats up. i had a lst2 and every time i would run it the damn pin would come out tryed all diff lock tights and even called losi and they said try torking the bolt to 10 lbs mine didnt come apart for a while.. i ended getting rid of the lst 3 and getting a savage x and they put a hole right through both sides of the drive coupler and the screw goes right through double the strength .. but any way good luck trying to keep the bolt in ....

Thanks for the tip SavageX, but I think you misunderstood me. My set screws for the drive shafts aren't loosening. It is the drive pin on the selector shaft inside the tranny. This is a necessary part for the forward/reverse option. Regardless which gear the tranny is in the pin takes all the torque in either direction. If I was just getting loose set screws in the driveshafts I could just lock-tight them with the red lock-tight.

new issue of rc driver addresses this issue on the shaft pins coming out. They say to put appropriate size shrink wrap around the shaft to avoid losing the pin if the set screw does back out. Good tip

Thanks for the tip bash, but oncce again I think that I was misunderstood. The pin I am talking about is not an external drive shaft pin. It is the pin INSIDE the transmission for the forward/reverse selector shaft. For those of us who don't want to give up reverse (yes, I am getting lazy and would rather back it up than pick it up :o ) this pin is integral for the truck to move in either direction. I have had no problems at all with the drive shaft pins. I will keep the shrink tubing in mind if the drive pins start loosening.

my main complaints:
1. It's not traxxas tough
2. Bigger engine is harder to start, tune, and maintain IMO
3. Very heavy; not to be converted to BL on a budget
4. It's not traxxas tough
5. I dont think it's got reverse
6. Did i mention it's not traxxas tough??? lol

1) I have run it longer than the guys with T-maxxes without breaking any suspension, body mounts or tie rods.
2) My engine is very easy to tune and purrs at the low end and screams at the top
3) I will grant you that, at 13 lbs it isn't a lightweight but it is also a 1/8th vs 1/10.
4) once again I believe it is durable
5) not only does it have reverse and a 2 speed but also high and low range
6) If I had it to do over again I still would have bought it!:D

I understood your ? on the tranny pin, I was just giving a general tip as it was fresh on my mind. I just put down the new issue not 10 minutes b-4 logging on. Those things are really that tough huh...I may be underestimating them. I am the same way with FORD, and after working on a fleet of fords, I can conferm my hatred for them. But, like I said b-4, I am coming around to lst's and savages. I have been liking LST's more and more lately.

Well I read on another forum that a couple of guys used pieces of piano wire or coat hanger. Wondering if maybe the stock pins are just too brittle? Maybe I'll give one of those a shot.
