One of my more recent attempts.
Jason, not too shabby for not being a painter. If you ever put as much effort into painting as you do in your crawlers, you'd be a Rembrandt!
Well...except you don't live in Europe. :p

Not much of a painter? You have to have more confidants in yourself as you could paint up a storm with even knowing what hit you.

just wondering, did you shoot the crawler king at clarks hill?

Yes, that was at Pointes West/Clarks Hill.

Tested an idea for body panels last night. Wanted an iridescent effect on scales.
Masked the design with 1/16" masking tape.
Grabbed a piece of cardboard and bent it a few times so I could hold it with one hand and easily hold a contour with it.
Started with Parma Faskolor Fasflip Jade and placed the cardboard along each of the masked lines then sprayed the Fasflip Jade by aiming at the corner where the cardboard rested against the panel (along the masked lines)
Then I followed along the other set of masked lines with the Fasflip Jade...just spraying light coats at the corner of the cardboard and the panel.
Changed to Parma's Faspearl Black and backed the entire panel. Depending how you look at it, Faspearl Black has a gold-ish brown look to it.
Next I removed all the masking tape and sprayed the masked lines with Parma's Faspearl Charcoal.
Finally I backed the entire panel with Parma's Fasblack.
I just did the one panel to see if the iridescent effect I was looking for would work with that color combo. So far I'm happy with it.
The real test is to see it in sunlight. (Last two shots)
And yes...I know I need to mow. :D

At least you have something to mow and it is green.
We have been so dry that the grass give up long ago. No mowing means more time for RC.

Jason, I am also wanting to get rid of the shock springs. What is a good starting weight for the shocks on the Wheely King ?

That's a Beckworks Cobra.
My dad designed the frame...I got him hooked on crawling this past January.
There's an build thread here: http://www.rccrawler.com/forum/showthread.php?t=76591
If you want to go springless on the WK shocks I'd start with a 3000 weight diff oil. You'll also need to limit travel both at the center of the axle (whole axle droop) as well as limiting the amount of droop at each shock.
A little fuel tubing inside the shock (on the shock shaft) is all it takes...how much tubing you use is up to you. I suggest draining the stock oil out of the shocks and messing with fuel tubing to get shock travel where you want it before you go putting more oil in the shocks.
