Hey all, got my new LRP X-11 brushless motor in (8.5 turn version) and i can't decide how to gear it. I did one run geared 18/90 and the motor got pretty hot. i think 16/90 would be a bit low, and maybe 16/87 or 18/87 is better. im running 4200mah cells (6 cell pack) and the stock stampede XL-5 talon tires... thanks!!

A couple of things to check. One, definitely try and smaller pinion like 16t. That might be all the difference you need. Secondly, are you just driving your stampede pinned most of the time? Regardless what pinion you select, your motor will get hot. Furthermore, make sure nothing in the drivetrain is binding. i.e. older bearings, sometimes they're just metal spacers as opposed to bearings, you might want to upgrade.

whole driveline is fresh, but ya, i drive pretty much doing speed runs and hardcore bashing... gonna try getting a few 87t spurs to experiment, thanks

definitally lower your pinion gear. i would try a 16t or a 15t. that or get a heatsink witha fan. -Wes

thanks guys...how high can i run the pinion if i were to do just 3 or 4 speed runs, and then let it cool and gear it back down regular?
