the 4th pic is of a bracket that a friend made me compared to RcGuy's Servo mount. it bent the first day i turned it with the tires on the home made bracket did! but now i got the RCG one within like 4 days i ordered it. it looks great! now on the the rear 4-link!

is that a droop set-up in the second pic?

master_of_desaster
05-06-2008, 09:50 AM
yeah, im contemplating on which set-up im gunna run. basically its ready to run droop cause i limited shock travel via fuel tubing and it has got like 45-50 degrees of articulation compared to the previous 75 degrees of travel. i like of it runs with the set-up now. i sorta got it running only to find that the stock shock on the right rear is broken at the ball end... oh well hopefully i can upgrade to aluminum or something. i also started cutting the rear tires as well. not as extream of a pattern as the front tires, but enough to make the tires pretty soft compared to stock. when im done cutting the tires and weighting them down with 4 oz. ea i will get some pics and after im done with the rear suspension, ill get some comparison vids of droop vs. spring. THANKS FOR THE COMMENTS!!

did you make your links or did you order them? if so where from, i'm looking a some to make my king in to a crawler.

master_of_desaster
05-06-2008, 08:52 PM
sweeto!!! yeah i bought links using this lil gem of a find...

http://www.rccarreviews.com/rc-reviews/wheely-king-to-rc-rock-crawler.htm

i basically got all these items except for the locker because i made my own lockers. the 3rd link up front i made out of the stock 3-link and i used 4-40 all thread and used brake tubing to cover the allthread and make it sturdier. i have also found that 6-32 all thread works as well but needs a lil more coaxing. i recommend buying the traxxas links or maybe even the Team STRC 30 degree bent links. i am in the process of getting rid of the 3-link set-up and using 108mm traxxas turnbuckles to make it into a 4-link system.

its short really. i had like 5 min of battery left so i started losing power quickly. i had a curious neighbor stop by to ask some questions as well. lol but all in all it worked really well especially for having a broken right rear shock:D it will be continiously worked on and tweaked suspension wise and probably tire weighting as well. its together though which is the main joy. i has been apart for 4 months...

cool cool thats good to hear. what would you like to change if it was your truck?

bugz2002
05-08-2008, 09:33 AM
i dont like to tell other people what to do to their truck because to each there own but i will tell you what i want/going do to mine. extend it like yours put 4ws on it, a new body (dont know what kind yet) some beat lock rims with weights up front and then prolines flat iron tires. that is what i hope to do to my wheely king. when i get it going i iwll put up pictures and what not. hope that helps

master_of_desaster
05-08-2008, 09:53 AM
well that sounds good. i was just asking out of curiosity. so im guessing your wk is gunna be a fun crawler then? cause if you do comps and stuff like that, 4ws isnt allowed. but you can still do it no problem. tire wise, i have been lookin around RCC and Panther is making these really cool, really sticky crawler tires. i dont know the name of them yet cause i believe they are still in the tesitng stages but will be released within the next month possibly. i think around $18 for a pack of 2 tires is what they cost. which is $2 less than rock claws and moabs. the flat iron tire is a good tire for what you want to do with your king though. you should be good with them. im getting wheels as well for my king. i am lookin into Eritex Beadlocks. they are like $75 for 4 rims but i have never heard of them stripping hexes and they are really strong and well designed.

bugz2002
05-08-2008, 02:31 PM
yeah i dont plan on doing any comps, even thought i wouldnt mind going to some. so my wheely king will just be for messing around down by the beach wehre that are a BUTT load of rocks. i will try and take some pics and videos this summer. should be fun. where did you find those panther tires?

Nice - speaking of Flat Irons, just ordered a set. :) They are for bashing around though, not for crawling - big plans for my F-350!

King is looking pretty cool, it's got a nice mean stance. Still debating what to do with mine, i just tore up my second ring gear over the weekend. Getting a little frustrated, but going brushless will do that i guess. Did you updrade your axles gears at all?

Are you shimming the R&P at all?

bugz, are you running the HD ring and pinion gears?

as of right now everything in my wheely king is stock but the motor, it is a 55t. and to answer your questions....HUH???

05-09-2008, 04:30 PM
Bugz, i will! and they will be seing the rocks too. see how it goes.

Jason, were you referring to my post? i do shim the gears in the rear as they take the brunt of the abuse, but i did not upgrade to the HD gears yet - i hear they are much stronger, but have not yet installed them.

master_of_desaster

im running HD guts in my axles as well as the new hardened tranny gears as well.

whoa, hardened tranny gears? nice!! where did you find them? assuming you mean tranny internals...Monster Mo could use a set of those. I saw RC4WD has a set, but it included the spur..

master_of_desaster

yeah i got it from rc4wd. i didnt use the spur gear cause i still wanted my 96t spur. they work really well

How good does it crawl, i mean it i know it crawls but compared to some other crawlers how does it do? Are you going to give a tube frame? I am thinking about getting a wheely king and doing some work and turning it into a crawler!

master_of_desaster
08-20-2008, 03:41 PM
i plan on making a chassis with the help of a very well equipped shop and the friend that owns it. i'm going to the stock tranny with it as well because its basically bullet proof. it crawls very well and i have had 3 comps last month and won all of them. axials are just trucks, its the driver that gets the job done. it's just nice to have good equipment lol. the Wheely king is very very easy to work on and i love the support!:)

most up to date pics. i'm running a droop set up in the rear. this thing can go anywhere!:D

whats the fun tho? its all about the challenge. its a precision oriented branch of RC. patients and composure are key. besides i would love to see a t-maxx do a 10ft climb at 85degrees on shale rock. anyone can drive a truck like a maxx and anyone can drive a crawler. its about fun.

my Avi!:) its jus beastly lookin

if i work up in the middle of the night and thats the frist thing i saw..i think i would jump alittle. that thing looks like a beast. does it have wheel wideners on it or something? or is it just the tires?

master_of_desaster
08-22-2008, 11:38 PM
no wheel wideners. its the rims and their offset. its a wheely king offset but beings they are narrow it gives it a different appearence.

what happened to the body?

master_of_desaster
08-29-2008, 05:18 PM
what happened to the body?

trimmed it up to accomodate my wheel travel. i also did a lil known mod thats real easy and keeps ya from getting caught up on rocks (in most cases) i curled in the sides of the body toward the chassis so that the rocks won't get caught underneath the body and possibly high center it. the body now has a HUGE rip in it from a 5ft. roll down a local crawling area. its right behind the passenger door and it goes to about hte middle of the bed.:D

Gotta love those mounts! Whats the WB now, is it still legal. I also like that E-maxx body on there too.

the wheelbase is a bit long at 12.6" so i'll just adjust the lower links via turnbuckle wrench and then adjust the upper links accordingly. i love these link mounts sooo much! so much adjustability except for the front. with my axle mounted servo i can't use most of the shock mounts because the servo's in the way. yet i'm that much closer to a 3" center clearence mark with a stock chassis in a droop suspension. i feel thats pretty special.

master_of_desaster
11-26-2008, 09:51 AM
ok nothing really new is going on right now. i'm kinda lookin for things that could make it better. i'm lookin into rcp hi-clearence clockable knuckles and possibly either get an Axial transmission and then get an SWX chassis. i really really liked this chassis when i checked it out at iHobby. so thats in the works as of now. and i'm in need of a new motor for my savage x in a bad way.

master_of_desaster
11-28-2008, 01:18 PM
ok. out crawling yesterday and the tranny blew out... so more tranny gears are in order. this might be a sign telling me to get that axial tranny... hmmm

What!? The rc4wd gears!? Wow never thought that would happen.

master_of_desaster
11-28-2008, 04:31 PM
no i ended takin those gears out for another project thats gunna get rolling here soon. i put some stock ones in there and, though i'm not sure which one, the motor spins free now. so my guess is that the small top gear lost its teeth inna fist fight... but on the bright side, i'm gettin a new chassis!

master_of_desaster
11-28-2008, 06:14 PM

i agree, killed trannys are nasty sights. as far as upgrades... um i mean updates, nothing yet just a rebuilt tranny and a disassmbled trcuk still... why you may ask yourself?!?!? cause i think that this truck is ready for a major transformation. either i do this tummy tuck (pics thanks to my good buddy) mod i've been studying about a lot lately or getting an axial tranny and a new comp chassis.

LSXEric
01-09-2009, 08:37 PM
I was also thinking of the tuck... Now if I do anything I'll do a offroader5 "widow" out of cutting boards.

no i love those chassis but i'm not too wild about that shock mounts. i'm thinkin about something like this mostly because i have all the resources to do it and do it really really well.

ehhh kinda not really. i'm kinda stuck between two paths i can take. do a 100% rebuild with DNA products or do a custom build with some graphite dirt oval shock towers i found. i'm clockin the motor and transmission. but for now i'm just doing the tummy tuck mod with my stock chassis
