Got this from from a guy in Hawaii.

Liked it the moment I saw it and finally got it from him.

Looked like this the day she (Betty) arrived.

I put the Tamiya MFC-02 in Betty and headed to Florida. One of the guys got some video of Betty in action. You can see her at the beginning of the video here (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fso3OblKKj8).

The steering didn't work well (geometry was off) and the suspension link mounts bent quite a bit. I cut the old link mounts off, made new pieces from 1/8 inch thick steel, and brazed them in. The front shock mounts were also replaced with 1/8 inch steel. Also added an electronics tray to the frame, and I've got LED mounts cut that need to be installed.

Went to Wal-Mart and picked up a pink Mustang from the toy dept. Yes, I bought a Pink Mustang. :) Deal with it. :p

The Mustang will be donating the headlights, seats, and dash to this build.

Here's a shot of the dash. Width-wise it was a perfect fit. I needed to trim it a bit to clear portions of the frame but nothing that was a big deal.

The dash...

To keep with the rig's Hawaiian roots I decided to put this decal on the hood. Found this at Advance Auto a long time ago.

:) Nah, she'll live a good life on the rocks.

Outdoor shots in her new clothes.

The paint looks much better in sunlight.

From a distance you can't really notice much about the paint, but when the light hits it right, you can see that each color is actually two colors. Simple process, cool effect.

...and don't worry, the new piece to replace the hole in the front grille is painted, just needs to be installed.

On large crawlers like Betty and Ralph the large physical dimensions of the All-Ts fit the stance well. Rock Claws and Flat Irons just aren't large enough. I like a tall tire and plenty of sidewall on these rigs. The downfall of the All-Ts is that they don't hook up well unless there's a bunch of weight placed on them. That's not a problem with Betty and Ralph. :p They're heavy pigs.

I'm looking at the Imex Rubicons to replace the All-Ts on Betty. The ones I'm looking at are 5 1/2 in tall and 2 1/2 in wide...perfect!

yeah i like how the lights dont shine through the body much. also, i am lookin for a taller tire for my wheely king but im doing comps with it...(stock chassis! YIKES!!) lol i think im gunna order the Panther Tires in the red dot compund. i have been talkin to Jeff aka Kamikazi about them and he says that they are really good tires, just gotta figure out the compund. better yet they are in my price range when i order the Eritex Inc. rims. before i buy any other tall good comp tire suggestions?

The lights don't shine through the paint at all - I always use duct tape on the inside of the panels on tubers to protect the paint from rubbing against the frame. I need to paint the back side of the LEDs black so there's no stray light coming out from the back side of the buckets. (Can see the back of the LED in the 2nd shot)

Got the hole in the grille patched and decaled last night so it's moving along. :)

lookin great Jason. i like your idea of using duct tape. y not electrical tape though? leaves less of a mess. i dig those rims as well!

JasonC

There's no mess with duct tape.

Look at the last shot. You can see the back of the side panel on the driver's side.

Perfectly clean.
