This one is not super creative, though I think it will look really nice when I am done. I am doing the 'box art' theme from HPI Racing for their 73 Bronco body with the chrome grille/rollbar and black hood, roof and flares. I was going to paint the thick white pinstripe that goes down the side, but since there are precut pinstripe decals for the outside, I will take the easy way out. I might paint up the included engine chrome that screws to the hood and slap it on.

I am debating the main color still... Either orange, silver or red.

Here you can see I taped the hood, roof and back areas. I will paint black last, so I am masking it first. Next I will mask the fender flares, then the rollbar.

You should actually paint from dark to light, so the black areas technically should be done last.

And, although blue tape isn't terribly expensive, you could also save on it by just taping the edges and filling the large cener portions with masking paper. You just have to watch it that you don't get it too wet with waterbased paints or it soaks the paper.

Hmmm... I have always backed light colors with dark. I thought you were supposed to go light to dark?! That's the way I have painted and it turns out ok.

dark to light, but do black last? wouldn't that be light to dark?

in any case, i always back light colors with white or silver - seem to make them pop better. And i always do darkest colors first - not that i am a michaelangelo of paint by any means, but seems to work better that way.

Here is the progression of the body last night with final pics. Turned out nice with nice clean lines. I didn't have any bleed at all. I just didn't feel like breaking out the airbrush, so this is all rattle can fellas. If you are a new painter, you can do cool stuff with rattle cans, much cooler than this. This is Pactra rattle can black and red and rattle can chrome (not Spastix, the other stuff).

Here it is all masked with the red layed down.

Next, the chrome is laid down and the masking for the black section has been removed.

The black is laid down and the painting is done.

Here it is all done... Model is an Ezilla with Maximizer Beadlocks, Proline Badlands, and a freshly installed Fastlane Machine extended LCG chassis. I am happy with it!

Well done! Doesn't look like the black came through the red at all.

Sometimes spraycan lacquer seals against bleed-thru much better than waterbased paints like Faskolors.

And getting a good coat of coverage also helps.

Great looking truck, overall!

That body actually ended up on my Emaxx... It didn't fit the ESavage very well.
