I am looking at the new traxxas slash. It says it is water proof but the engine is ringt behind the rear wheels mounted sorta low. is the engine water proof? if so are all motors water proof?

yes the esc and the reciever and the servo are waterproof but no the motor isint waterproof, and neither are any elec motors because the brushes inside break apart and wear easily when they get wet which then lowers the living span of your motor and wears the comm down faster. its okay to go through some puddles and stuff but only to a certain extent. like you you can put the truck in water and get some on the motor just try not to soak the hole motor and water log it. -Wes

sorry i disagree you can totally soak a electric motor with no problems in fact it keeps the motor cool .and this is how electric motors are broke in they are soaked in water and run on a low voltage ......http://www.rccartips.com/rc-electric-motor-tuning-guide.htm

well its hard to explain. like it depends what you do with it. like when you break in an elec motor in water most people usually take apart the motor and clean it to get rid of the water or if its a non rebuildable spray it out with brake cleaner to get rid of moisture. like it is possible to use an elec motor in water im not denying that its just after that you have to clean it because if you dont it will hurt your motor. -Wes

I have electrics and i have like 12-20 cans of that stuff put away and have two at my workspace to work with my trucks this stuff does miracales and so do comm drops faster and cleaner. I probably use that spray after long runs.

yeah it dries out your bearings but all you have to do is put oil in them in voila. i have had alot of motors die from driving in water, but since i started cleanin them i have never had a problem, i guess your just lucky then. -Wes

hi no not lucky as i have said motors run in water no problem thats how the motor is broke in . i just squirt motor cleaner in afterwards .i never had a motor die and have run every motor i own through water .you must have been unlucky with your choice of motor is all i can think . thanks

Hey the motors breake in under water. I never knew to do that but now that reminds me I did that back in my slot car days.
