he is thinking about getting a new truck and is looking at the Thunder Tiger ST-1. theres a website that has a good deal on it and he is wondereing if its good to get. right now he has a Cen magnum nx which keeps stripping gears every time he drives it after fixxing it.
let me know the pros and cons
the availability of parts
and how it performs
he wont be getting it for awhile because he doesnt have the money but he is going to work with his dad. so he will prob have enough by the end of the summer.
thanks for any help

Depends on your LHS and such. But, it is not a main stream vehicle like a losi, jammin or HPI. Around here, thunder tiger is not stocked so if I owned one, I would have to order all of my parts and wait. I don't have a TT, but I do run into the same situation with my CEN and XRay vehicles. The CEN is a basher, so it just sits until the parts come in (which sometimes take forever). I pre-order and stock all my own replacement parts for my XRay since I race with it. This is costly, and doesn't sound like your friend has very deep pockets. If only buying what you need at the time, you may want to tell him to stick with what the LHS supports best. That way, a day of fun is not scrapped because of a minor break.

we have to order all our parts online.
there is only one hobby shop thats within 30 minutes away and it doesnt carry much, just some traxxas stuff. its mostly trains and plains. luckily they have gas.
i dont mind having to wait for the parts since i have 3 to drive, but my friend just has the cen magnum nx. even when he got the metal gears he said that one wasnt touching the bell but the other one did. so he only used one. when we took it out to drive i tuned it for him and he went maybe 50 feet and the one plastic gear stiped and a gear on the bell got striped by his new metal gear. it seems like he cant win.
thats why he is looking for a new truck
thanks for the info

Pipi,
I have a TTR ST1. In stock form it is a rugged truck, with CVD drives all around and a decent (2008MG) steering servo. The .28 engine isn't a powerhouse racer engine, but it moves ok. If you lean it out it runs hard, and for $115 you can get another if you fry it.
If you really want more out of the truck, upgrading the radio, tires, and steering servo are needed. Then the engine.
I know you can find the non-Pro version for around $350 rtr, which is a pretty good deal.
I buy parts from AMainhobbies.com.
Thunder Tiger is now merged with Associated, so you can expect that the RC8T will eventually kill off the ST1 and someday parts will be gone.
For the money I hav einvested in mine, I couldn't have touched the next level up truggies. And I rarely race, so it wouldn't have been worth it anyway.

thanks for all the info it really helps
the .28 will be better than his .18 or what ever his engine is
we found the non-pro version for $280, which is a really raelly good price.
he definetly is never going to be racing just bashing with me and his brother and my brother. as long as this one doesnt break every time he drives it, he will be happy

THE ORANGE ONE AND PURPLE AND SILVER ONES ARE LISTED ON tower hobies site for 244 right now i just ordered one. As far as it being an a main truck i believe that is up to the drivers skill and ability to tune. a main hobbies is stocked with every part you need. If you go on truggyracers.com they have a good explination on how to do a steering mod that makes low speed turning much better and sharper. You don't see it in many a mains because most people stick with the more popular brands. I am not saying it is on par with an eitht t but with a little work it sure could be (especialy with the thinner chassis.) Tell him to grab it at that price its not going to be there for long
ps. the red and black one is 299.99. I emailed a main and they said the two other colors are cheaper because they are no longer stocking those colors

he wants to bash not race so no worries there
and finding parts is important since its hard to find parts for his truck he has now and he hates not having parts
hopefully its at that price for a little while longer

thats cool that you lived in PA, sadly there are 0 tracks around were we live so no racing for us. just bashing. he convinced his mom to pay for some of his last car but he had to pay her back.
but it seems that a mains has taken the 245 dollar ones off their website
they only have the red and black one. he likes that body better but its 55 dollars more

really thats to bad. Ya its that much more and you can buy any color body you want for 30 I believe. Oh well just have to save up a bit more...
I just checked the site and the black and red one is back up to 369.99. Tell him to keep an eye on it i'm pretty sure it will go on sale again. This site always changes things around...
