Well here is a compilation video from my backyard track, Broken Dawg Mini Baja. I tried to shoot from various angles and cover all the different vehicles I can use on the track, but I was the only driver and camera man that day so I did the best I could with a tripod.
The 24th Scale baja track has a couple different routes.
The 10th scale rally runs the outer perimeter of the entire track.
The Riverbed is meant to go in both directions.
The crawler course is actually meant to be more for RC Rock Racing and also runs in both directions.
When I designed the layout I tried to make as many different areas as possible so that you could try different paths, I hope this will keep things interesting. Also all of the real rocks are loose fitted so they can be moved to make alternate routes.
The original Build thread........

I still have quite a few details to finish, but the track is now at a point I can drive on it.

That right there is an argument for all those people that say "my place is too small for any kind of track". Nice job.
Now how do I get there again?

That track if an all around course!
Great work!
Put in a keli-pad and a small landing strip and you'd be set!
Oops...you'll need a small lake for a boat too.

Thanks everyone, it was a fun project and it's still a work in progress. I'm working on learning more rock creation techniques, it's hard though, rock creation is a very competitive business so they hold tight to their secrets.
It's funny, my wife really doesn't care to much about the yard, I'm the yard freak, but she wouldn't be very happy if I put in a standard track, I think that's why I get free reign, she knows it will always come out looking landscaped, now for the kids playground and the above ground swimming pool, I guess I need some kyosho mini-z boats.....:D
Well anytime anyone makes it down here to the Houston area just let me know, I'm always up to some RC'n
I do plan to write up in online article covering stream building, ponds, landscaping, dirt, and rock creation, I'll post a link when complete, I'm testing some concrete mixes first and some concrete stains.
Oh and sg I see you can find time to make it by here...........:p

I'm thinking about planning a track on a lot near my house but I don't know who owns it and if they'll even let me. If they won't I could just someone with the city if I could build a track in the local park cause it has everything but an RC track.:(

Wicked setup Ripper. Watching your video has given me some really great ideas for a patch of the back yard that used to be my excuse for a garden. It is now basically an ambush point for the local cats to have a go at the birds that gather around the feeders, sort of over grown with weeds and stuff. Come spring, the cats are going to get a major suprise.:)

Thanks everyone, Well time to update the track, I have a small area that needs some gardening, so why not add some concrete....LOL
I'm taking as many pics as I can, I plan to write an article on rock creation. So here is a lot, I wanted to show everyone that it's a trial and error process, test and retest before you pour concrete.
It all started with a load of top soil. I moved all the dirt back into the area.

I than began to shape the rocks out of the dirt piles.

Currently I think the cheapest and best way to get into crawling is to buy an axial ax10, a tower pro 995 MG servo, a LRP ESC and a Cheap 27 mhz radio and reciever.
But that still puts you in around 550.00
A Wheely King comes RTR for 190.00 but you will need tires and the ESC is garbage so plan on it going out. The wheely king will need to be rebuilt to crawl. The tranney is not very strong. If you decide to build a Trail Rig or Scale vehicle I offer the HellCAT WK-7.

A simple tutorial

Hpi's article
http://www.hpiracing.com/news/2007061801/
The WK is cheaper to start out and makes a fine basher but it will cost you if you want to comp level, the axial is pretty much ready out of the box with plenty of room to grow.

Nah, when we go to sell, I'll get rid of the pool, load the rocks on to a trailer and smash the concrete and move it out, smooth the dirt and resod. The concrete is only 1/2 to 3/4" thick and if possible I would like to take it with me and use it at the next house, but if not I'll take it to one of the crawling spots and dump it. The grass was dead and needed to be replaced, now of course I can't guarantee the quality of the soil but that won't be my problem. But I am taking just about every rock, the river will probably stay and some more plants will go in. I have money allocated to build again when we move, I enjoy the building process.

Thanks, but keep in mind there is an outside lane rally track, a 1/24th Scale Rally track on the inside which doubles for my Micro-t. I also run my Beast Powered Mini-t on the ouside lane. There is a 1.9 Scale Course and a fast River Bed run. If I had more room I'd add a track for my Maxxes and probably a small airport....LOL
Here's the pics from a crawler comp we just held.

Are the boulders just mounds of dirt (as a base/form) with a thin skim coat of concrete?

Basically, the concrete is about an 1" thick so that it can be walked on.

Well that all depends on your terrain. The CC01 (Porsche) has better clearnace and is better all terrain wise. But the Lancia a TT01 is great on hard packed and more like a Car, the CC01 is more like a SUV on 30's. I prefer the Lancia and my Mini Cooper out back, the porsche has been retired.

Ahh the porshe took an ass whooping before being retired, it was actually just way to capable for scale rally.
I'm not taking the track out, just changing the center 24th scale section.
I may revamp a bit of the 10th scale area, come spring I'll be hosting a Scale Crawl Shootout.

how fast can it go, and what cheap motor would be a good upgrade for it?
ripper7777777
11-27-2008, 10:27 PM
Well it's built pretty damn tough, but the gear drive wasn't designed for much, So i wouldn't go full blown mod motor, I'd stick with a stock racing motor, but the stock silver can gives enough speed to allow for air off ramps, the biggest complaint is that the gearing is to high for scale crawlers.
No idea who's this is or the setup, but it looks pretty quick.

No, no, noooooooooooooooo.
This is not Tamiya's porsche, do not buy that as a matter of fact I know a local guy that would probably make you deal on one....
The DF01 is riddled with problems and needs bearings to damn near run, it is no where near as tough as the CC01 and the Tamiya Porshce sucks compared to the HPI.
The Chassis is this.
http://www.tamiyausa.com/product/item.php?product-id=58324
The body is this
http://www.hpiracing.com/products/en/17512/
The wheelbase is adjustable on the CC01.
I would shop ebay for the Touareg or a Used CC01, the Pajero and old Wrangler used the same chassis.
or buy a new pajero and sell the body if you want the porsche, the hardbody pajero goes for a good price.
http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXUGV4&P=ML
Or you could just rally the pajero body.
