Im about to buy a dark impact kit and would like to know if its a good deal as far as 4wd buggies go. I found all the things I need for and and some of them are pretty nice like a 3000 sized battery a duratrax sport ecs (that can handle 12t) but just a basic radio and a kinda slow servo (22oz in .23 sec) and a traxxas 12t motor for about $315. So just say your opoins and what you have put on it and how it handles and such. thanks!

I like it all but that servo (like u said SLOW and NO tourqe). Just get a faster and toureyer servo!

I will later down the road when I start raceing but for the time being its just gunna be used for bashing but that will be the first thing I get for it and then probebly a better radio I think futuba makes one thats got a 10 modle memory for a little under $100. Its not a dsm or anything but its better than a cheap RTR radio.

I thinka ervo still would be the best first up grage. Nothing fanncy but mabye a 50-70 in. servo, but its ur buggy. What ever makes u happy:cool:

ohh ya that will be the very first upgrade I get but I wont have the money to get one to replace the servo that comes with the radio
Maxx man

what kinda stuph do you have in yours? and how does it drive? ohh and one more question how fast is it with what motor you have in it?
LSXEric
07-17-2008, 11:54 PM
Ahh, I dont think I ever said I have one:confused:. I dont. But the titan 12t with the stock ESC and a 7-cell batt. should give u 25-30mph top speed. I cant answer the other questions because I've never driven one. Srry dude.
Fiero_Man_121
07-18-2008, 09:10 AM
yeah but i hate the titan its to big for most applications, get a good modified style motor (one you can rebuild) because once that titans' brushes start going on ya, its worthless as a motor.
personally i thing the fireball motor is very good for what your running. the only traxxas thing id suggest is the XL10 esc and the TQ controller, the TQ is a very solid radio
Maxx man
07-18-2008, 11:29 AM
I just rememberd a 12t modified motor by epic and you can take it apart and is about $30-$40 do you think its a good idea? cause i dont really want to spend much more but if its really not worth it I might spend spend up to $60
Maxx man
07-18-2008, 01:04 PM
do you know a place to get a slipper clutch for it. I would get it at towerhobbies but I cant find it there and the tamiya websight wants $43 for it so if you know pls tell me and posibly a link to the place
thanks!
Maxx man
07-18-2008, 11:22 PM
or should i get the reedy flash 12t motor?
LSXEric
07-18-2008, 11:27 PM
I like the flash 12t. The flash should give a little more power over the traxxas 12t, but not too much.

My bad:o I stupid! The traxxas is a 550 size not a 540. I like the flash:cool:

Maxx man
07-19-2008, 01:45 PM
Is the duratrax streak ecs a good one or should i get the intellspeed ecs? i dont really car about reverse part and the streak dosnt have reverse so if its basically the same minuse the reverse its $20 less and it has a controllable power arc and abs braking on it so i guess its different. what do you think about it
thanks
LSXEric
07-19-2008, 09:27 PM
It'll work not the best on the market but it should do right for u.

ohh i belive you it will work fine but i dont know wat seperates a good ecs from a bad ecs other than higher turn ability makes the price higher
LSXEric
07-19-2008, 10:16 PM
Yea I think battary voltage input max, and how many turns it can take determins it.

just double checking this one can take 12t and 10 cells but the buggie itself is limited to 6cells:( ohh well. how many cells do racers usually have ina car?
Hyper Rusty
07-20-2008, 11:11 AM
normally a race has six high capacity cells. i run team orions 3000mah and 3300mah NiMH's. i use the NiMH over NiCd's becuase they don't have a problem with cell memory which will hurt your lap times if your racing. i would have at least three battery packs
LSXEric
07-20-2008, 01:40 PM
I run a custom 7 cell pack that my hobbie shop made. Its a 4780mah 8.4 volt batterie. No plugs, just strait solder leads on the pack. I dont know the brand but I love it for racing!

the one im getting with the buggie is a 4200 minh and will probebly get another couple later down the road but im not gunna race for a little wile and do you guys know were to get a slipper clutch for the tamiya dark impact cause ive looked at tower hobbies and I couldn't find one and to get it from tamiya itself its $43 wich seems a little steep for me but thats just my opion wat do you guys think?
LSXEric
07-20-2008, 03:07 PM
I think that would be ur best bet for the slipper clutch. Ask at ur LHS see if they have a better deal.

07-20-2008, 08:44 PM

LSXEric
07-20-2008, 08:51 PM
A good driver! Also get some good tires (racing tires), have plenty of vaiours shock oils (for tuning), and get a fast servo when u get the money.

ok now just need to buy the buggie and practice a hole lot kuz ive never driven a 4wd vehicle execpt once and it was a 1/8 scale monster and those are very diferent driving and i need to get some shock oil
wat about diff oil does the diff oil come with the kit or do i have to get a bottle also
im gunna ask what tires people use at the track but what do you suggest for tires like for hard pact dirt? hard on top with a lose surface? and for soft surrfaces?

Hold up. What size rims are they?
Maxx man
07-20-2008, 09:28 PM
62/25 up front and 62/35 in the back but i couldnt find inches
Maxx man
07-20-2008, 09:28 PM
i would think its 2.2 inch but im not sure
LSXEric
07-20-2008, 09:29 PM
Yea I've never looked up the impact tires before. I only look up standered 2.2 from proline.
LSXEric
07-20-2008, 09:30 PM
I'm not sure etiher
Maxx man
07-20-2008, 09:32 PM
when i get the kit i will mesure it out and ask agian but im pretty sure it is a
2.2 but who knows?
LSXEric
07-20-2008, 09:36 PM
OK if the 2.2s do fit go with the pro-lie hole shots and the inside job for looser conditions.
Maxx man
07-20-2008, 09:47 PM
what about for hard and medium. I have no idea ive never raced before
Maxx man
07-20-2008, 09:51 PM
It uses the same as other tamiya 1/10 scale buggies if that helps:confused:
LSXEric
07-20-2008, 10:05 PM
Use the hole shots for the hard-medium. Inside job for slick-dusty tracks.
Maxx man
07-21-2008, 04:52 PM
I went to proline and i think they said it was the otherway around but you may be right.
both are soposed to be for blue groove but you can get one of them in a sticky compound for dusty/loomy tracks but thats just what they said experience beets what they are soppose to be for
LSXEric
07-21-2008, 05:06 PM
Well what I put is what I usally run on my B44, but I only run different rear tires since the B44 is rear whell drive. I run the narrow ribs up front for soft and hard.
Maxx man
07-22-2008, 06:01 PM
ya the whole shots in the m3 compoud is for soft tracks you were right
my bad
Maxx man
07-23-2008, 12:10 PM
I just reallized my fast charger cant charge nimh i dont think do you know of one thats under $70? by chance if you do thanks!
LSXEric
07-23-2008, 02:44 PM
Yea this one.
http://www.duratrax.com/caraccys/dtxp4005.html
Its compltely ajustable.
Or this double charger
http://www.duratrax.com/caraccys/dtxp4150.html
I own both. The double one is nice because u can charge two. But the otheer is nice because it is completely ajustable.

is the dark impact comparable to its competitors? (I know i spelled it wrong)
or is it not quite as good as buggies like the b44 or other common buggies in the class? just wondering
Maxx man
08-01-2008, 11:36 AM
what do you guys think is better a shaft driven buggie or a belt driven buggie?

08-09-2008, 08:49 AM
what do you guys think is better a shaft driven buggie or a belt driven buggie?
i prefer shaft driven for off road - less chance of fouling anything up. Congrats on the DI, i think it's an awesome 4wd buggy.
LSXEric
08-09-2008, 02:22 PM
Ya shaft off. Belt on. Just how I learnd it.
Maxx man
08-09-2008, 04:28 PM

08-10-2008, 07:38 PM

LSXEric
08-10-2008, 09:48 PM
Cash isnt eveerything. How u drive is what matters.
Maxx man
08-11-2008, 01:03 PM
Ya that would help being able to drive cause ive never driven at a track before the only thing ive done is bash so that will change a little bit but i have to get tires better bateries better charger better servo (probebly the fatuba at tower for $35 with metle gears) and some experience. I do have a half way decent radio it is AM but it has a 10 modle memory and loads of goodies that i need to study up on and it is a computer radio it was about $70so i think it was a good deal but i dont know how reliable it is. its made bye fatuba so wat do you think? cuz its really comfortable but i have no knowldge otherwise its the magnum 2pl
LSXEric
08-11-2008, 02:53 PM
Well at the tack ur gonna race at, do a whole bunch of people run crytals. If so I'd go with a 2.4 gig radio. If not what u put should do fine. Also what tires are u gonna run? The holeshots or inside job?
jonelzoe

Maxx man
08-12-2008, 11:40 PM
no its the durga thats belt driven this one is shaft driven but it still has alot of stuph of stuph on it from what i know but im not sure this is my first kit lol
Maxx man
09-14-2008, 10:03 PM
It is alive lol I finally set up the ecs (i got scared of doing it) big mistake lol:eek: I dont know really how it drives becuase I have the stock motor in it because it doesnt come with a slipper and it is dark out so ya i dont know how well it corners at speed but i do know that the turning radius is kinda wide but it should handle well!
Evil3
09-14-2008, 10:37 PM
Most 4wd buggies need a lot of room to turn unlike 2wd buggies, but when on power they can out turn 2wd buggies.
As for the way it works in the turn it should be ok, but it is a little soft which will make it a little slower if on a track.
Maxx man
09-14-2008, 10:43 PM
wat do you mean bye soft?
Evil3
09-14-2008, 11:07 PM
If you are on a track, and the car is too soft it won't be able to carry any conner speed (it isn't a bad thing, I just think about the way things are on the track first).
As for what is soft, it is mostly that the shocks are on the softer side. Although they might be soft, the car will work great over bumps, and when you turn it should give the car a good amount of grip.
Maxx man
09-15-2008, 03:28 PM
I think its kinda stiff but thats just me it has medium springs and heavy oil and on ebay i found a slipper for it for $28 instead of $42 so im gunna get that so i can drop my ready flash 12t into it then it will be a little rocket and I can beet my friends rusty lol maby
Maxx man
09-27-2008, 01:07 PM
yay I put the slipper and the ready 12t in and it is a little rockett for a brushed buggie I really like it.
