do i need to change the bell gear when i use a 64t spur on tmaxx? the stock dosnt want to match up-theres a gap?

There are a few simple things to remember.
You must ensure you use the same 'pitch', or spacing between the teeth.
Maxxes are typically 32DP. Some also state this is equivalent to mod0.8 (NOT mod1, which is commonly used on nitro trucks, and wider spaced apart).
If the spacing is too close / tight, then they may start binding. You normally want to be able to pass a reasonable thickness piece of paper between the 2.
One thing is that I notice not all spurs (or pinions) are perfectly centred. You need to check the clearance throughout the entire rotation of the spur.
If your pinion is hardened steel, you may want to consider a similar material on your spur. This SHOULDN'T be a problem if the gears are perfectly meshed, but you might get excessive wear on the plastic gear if you've a combination of the 2.

Atom is correct, maxxes a 32 pitch gears. as are most nitro vehicles.
it generally doesnt matter how many teeth you have, so long as the pitch is right.
