Although I feel like I'm competitive with the Jammin X1, I have decided that it's time to upgrade David Bakers CRT which I have been racing this summer. I will include a few pics and will give part #'s for those that wish to do the same. This upgrade is not real expensive to do but since I installed the big bore shocks a few months back, I really can't include them in the cost of the upgrade.

So far the build is going along pretty smooth. Still waiting on more parts. Should be together by weeks end. I will give the scoop on how practical this upgrade is when all the bells and whitles arrive and the build is done.

Here is a list of the part #'s of the products used.
X2 chassis (ofn41041) x1
X2 straight chassis brace (ofn41042) x1
X2 fuel tank (ofn41037) x1
X2 front/rear chassis brace (ofn41034) x1
X2 center drive shafts (ofn41044) x1
Ofna steel center diff mounting post (40512) x1
Jammin CR X1 brake cams (40547) x2
X2 chassis stone/mud guards (41033) x1
Radio tray graphite top plate (41045) x1
Hot Bodies 10T bevel gear-pinion- (HBC9009) x2
Hot Bodies 43T bevel gear-ring- (HBC9010) x2
Hot Bodies 50T center spur gear (HBC8182) x1
I chose the Hot Bodies gearing to keep the expense of the build within budget. They are good quality gears and are spiral cut. The bevel gear pinion is longer than most. You will need to cut or grind about 3 mm from the end. This doesn't take long but grind at a good slow pace and be sure to dip it in water about every 10 seconds. You don't want any blue/black color from overheating.
So far the build is complete except for the fuel cell. Pics will be posted soon.
Any questions, please ask.

I have one. Why not just buy a X2? Looks good but I'm confused. GO JAMMIN!

Eric,
It is cheaper to upgrade than to buy. It's not always like that but I weighed all options on the Jammin. The fun of it all is just simply doing it myself.
This truck is raced ever Saturday and is always taken apart and cleaned during the week.
Updating and upgrading is part of the RC industry and I am doing my part to keep it healthy....
Greg B.
Are you going to race it on Saturday?
Let us know how it drives.

I actually have a meeting Saturday so I will not be racing. This week is the "Brawl for it all" with heats on Saturday and Racing Sunday. I will show up as I have a few things to give out for the Magazine. I am sure going to miss pulling that trigger

does it use the same center dif mount and dif aside from the spur gear? and why the steel dif mounts, are the ones on the x1 different? let me know i am thinking about doing this conversion as well...

If the shock costs were included, how do the build versus buy numbers work out? And I agree with you, the accomplishment of doing it yourself is an invaluable lesson learned and therefore priceless. Dave

I used the center steel diff posts because the stock CRT posts are tall and allow for the large spur gear. Install the buggy or X2 diff post and remove the plastic spacers on the original diff and she falls together. You will notice how Jammin spaced the center diff housing. Very easy to do. I did choose the buggy diff posts because the X2 post weren't available at the time.
Here is the cost in simple terms. You own a race worthy CRT X1, with Carbon fiber shock towers, new plastics and big bore shocks because I just gave it a face lift a few weeks.
Spend $600 for a new X2 or $250- $300 to update to the exact truck.
I was simply wanting to finish the season with style and the best chance of winning. Next season may be something different.

so with all the upgrades it is close if not the same as the x2? Are you happy with the results because there are so many x1's on the bay might be my next project with your guidelines and tips . Thanks for the build up!

I am doing a write up on the RC Driver Blog. I am going to be posting a decent setup that I have used but I have found that Chad Bradley's X2 setup posted on Jammin's website , is as good as new money. The upgrade is worth it for sure. The truck is simply dialed.
