Ok guys, here's the deal. I've always been an electric kind of guy when it comes to r/c, but now I'm stepping up to nitros and I know NOTHING about them so with that said if any of my questions are stupid ones you know why, so here it goes. First, can I use a glow plug more then once? What do I need to do to it before I try to start it (i.e. prime the carb, etc.)? What is after run oil, and where on the engine do I use it? How do I turn off the engine after I get done running it? And last but not least just give me a general run down of what you do from the start up to the shut down of the engine. If this helps I'm getting a Duratrax Thunder Quake, which probably isn't the best nitro ever built, but I'm still excited about it, so please don't rain on my parade by telling me there are better nitros out there:D Thanks in advance to anyone who can help.

Here is the manual with that type of information:

Best wishes on your new nitro rig.

you do have to prime, just hold your finger over exhaust pipe for a couple seconds while the engine turns over.to shut off youll need to pinch the fuel line going to the carb or do what i do flip it over 100 feet away and by the time you get to it it dies!after run oil goes in where your glo plug is its to keep things lubed if your not going to run 4 awhile.you will also have to bookmark this site!im on my first nitro too and looked at that truck let me know how yours go.i bought a tmaxx and spend alot of time replacing parts but thats my own fault speed is addictive and it dosent like the sudden stops---trees and other imovable objects.enjoy

how do you shut yours off?

Well I shut mine off like most racers. Get a rag place over the stinger, and it just shuts off. I too would never pinch the fuel line.

had no idea

a neat little device to have when starting a nitro is a team associated fuel primer bulb for an MGT. you basically snip the fuel line, and reconnect it with the bulb on both ends. ive got one for each of my vehicles, and its alot easier than the stinger method (theres nothing wrong with it though) particularily on a pull start engine.

you should also put after run oil in the carb, and turn the fly wheel a few times. another good idea is to make sure the piston is at BDC (bottom dead center) every time your finished running the engine. make sure of this by taking out the plug, and putting a long, skinny object, (e.g. a dowel,) in through the hole and turning the flywheel over until the dowel is at the lowest point it can be. you can, and should, do this every time you put after run oil onto the piston.

Thanks for the advice, I'm sure it will all come in handy. And don't worry, I have this site in my favorites. Thanks again!

Ok, like I said I'm a total noob when it comes to nitros, so what's a stinger?

Ok now that I have my nitro, I came up with some more questions. The first one is what is the easiest way to tune the carb? Do I screw the high and low speed needles all the way in or out and start from there? Keep in mind I got this used from a guy in another state, do I'm having a pretty hard time getting it tuned to my climate, I know what the manual tells me, but it's not working because it only tells me so much. Second question is can I be more liberal with running a nitro in a wet or snowy environment then I could with an electric, because obviously with electrics mixing water and electricity is a huge no no. Third question is how much power can I pump through the electrics? Like, I have an old 3000 NiMh 6 cell battery, but I don't know if it's safe to use that or not. It's a 1/8 scale and sometimes it's hard to get those front tires to turn left or right on just 4 AA batteries. Once again, thanks in advance to anyone who can help.

Well the stick pack no. U'll want to get a hump pack (5 cell). The tuneing goes so far,but it'd be nice to know what type of car or engine that you have in it.

you can run a nitro in snow, but keep the electronics dry, put them inside of a balloon, and then put the balloon in a ziploc bag (RX box space permitting)
and above all, do not, I repeat, DO NOT run it through road salt.

Duratrax Thunder Quake with a Torque .21 engine. As far as I can tell everything is stock except the pull start has been replaced with a roto start
