so yeah i have desided to try and make my own frame for a scaler. it will be 4link, i have my old pede tranny from when i changed to the vxl in the sandpede, axles dont know yet thinking axiel or up for ideas. this will be a long build as i am starting to go back to college so my money is getting tight. i will post updates whent hey happen. as for right now i just built the fame out of aluminian(sp?) and will take a picture when that is done.

Have you thought of using Lexan?

well here is the frame rail. i think i did a pretty good job for my frist time. i have the stampede tranny in there for size compaision. still need to buy axles and what not. any ideas on what body i should use? it is 16" long and 4" wide. i was thinking like the clod body or the F-350. anyother sugestion are welcome. thanks

hey man that looks really good! Lexan is another good idea for making a chassis. i'm pretty sure its easier to work with. Good use of a pede tranny btw! looks good! i think you should look into the new Tamiya Tundra hard body!

yeah i would LOVE to get the turnda body but i think it is alittle out of my price range for a body...but i have always wanned a hi-lift so who know i might end up buying one.

Are you using 1/8th inch aluminum?

i really dont know lol i thnk it is1/8th inch that would be my guess. i just went to lowes and pick out some angled aluminum and that was it.

not bad for only about $15. and to cut it i used a hacksaw. a drill press for the holes, and a tape that is it. oh and a 45 trangle. need some ideas for the body. dont know what i want to get yet

Thats a lot better than having to pay 50$ for a pre made chassis.

nice job! i use that aluminum quite a bit, works great for custom chassis. Tamiya is selling their TLT and Hi-lift axles now for roughly $75/pair - could be less once they hit the market bur even still, cheaper then on Ebay unless you get lucky.

Bugz for this project and since your going scaler, might i suggest tlt axles. i mean the hi-lifts have the diff covers and everything but they have, in my lame opinion:rolleyes:) the worst shock mounting position when it come to scalism. The tlt axles are your best bet from a scale look and width standpoint. like i said, jus a lil .02 and obviously its up to you. no pressure lol :D anyways, your chassis is killer! are you gunna paint it cause that would put it over the edge!

i was looking at axials axles cause i can get tehm for 35 at TH, but i will look in to the TLT. and painting never thought of that i think i will have to. but yeah i priced out what i would have to get for the axles and drivesafts....it was about $100 so this is going take a LONG TIME to build lol.

haha well the axial axles will suit you well. i mean can't go wrong with pre-built locked axles can you?

my only beef with axial axles is their width. if you're planning on using a 1/10 scale body with 1.9 or even smaller 2.2's, the axials are way too wide. For a scale fit, the TLT's and F150's generally work for 1/10 scale bodies, and the axial, WK, and CR01 axles work better for 1/8.

That's for a scaler, if you are putting monster tires on it, then any will work really.

bugz2002
09-07-2008, 10:40 AM
well with that i think i might just X the axial axles and try and get some TLT ones thanks for the imput guys. now i just need to try and find or deside what kind of body i want. that more i think about it this truck is going be a trail/scale/mudding truck. i think the tires i want to get will be the mud slinger at RC4WD. so any ideas on the body would be great. it doesnt have to be a hard body eather.

thats why i mentioned the tlt axles. they are the perfect width in my opinion.

i want to say clodbuster but everyone uses those. i think that a different body would be sweet! like a dodge or nissan titan body or something kinda out of the ordinary

yes looking real good .newbright do make good body's , in fact a lot of guys buy this r/c for that sole reason just to strip the body of , ia think iam one of the few that use the hole r/c .lol . speaking of licence plate ,check this out if you have a printer you can make your own , for your r/c , once printed you need to either laminate them or you could use a pve glue to waterproof them ,,....http://www.acme.com/licensemaker/licensemaker.cgi?state=Florida&text=NOTATOY&plate=1951&r=61917000

well i have all the links set up, i really like how the tlt axles look under the body of the jeep. i still need to put shocks on. so i am going have to look for some that will work. with no shock it gets 90 degrees of twist, which is way more then i thought. here are some pictures of how i set up the links. i will post more as it gets built.
