^^^ Yup,
That's a place to start Includes you low speed needle too.Check the head bolts to make sure they are tight.Maybe getting a airleak? Or check your fuel line could be getting air there too.And I had all of the above problems with my maxx.Check the gastank gasket. The small screw on top give it small turn to ensure it's tight.Air can leak in there also.Hope some of this helps you out.Keep us posted.Good Luck
If still having trouble call Traxxas support they are very helpful.

i forgot to say its an aftermarket engine. my dad got it from one of his friends so it doesn't have a manual. i also think that i'm missing a piece from the pipe. i will try your suggestions over the week though...:(

if its an after market engine, you may want to check the carb opening,
you may have accidently set the servo arm/rod thingy to far forward.
otherwise, to adjust the carb opening on the carb, theres a screw on the
side with the throttle arm,
that when turned right, opens the carb.
when turned left, closes it.

anyhoo.. I have no idea.

take the motor apart taking note how to put it all back and take the carb apart and use throttle body cleaner (wall mart has it) and spreay all the jets and needles. check the cylender sleeve take it out and look in the cylender (where the piston goes)and if its like chrome the problem is the cylender sleeve and piston are worn out:(
