Type 181 Thing, specifically:

Chassis is a re-Frog, with narrowed HPI stock car wheels (fronts modified to accept bearings) and BFG's. Headlights and VW roundel are from a Blitzer Beetle.

Taillights are carved from pink home-insulation foam. I have a feeling I'm going to use a lot more of this stuff.

Right now, epoxy is going on, one side at a time. Should be ready for paint sometime next week.

More progress:

Body is coated with epoxy, (ready for sanding in this pic, although that's been done now)

Waiting on a set of HPI Baja Bug front fenders to come from another board so I can cut the turn signals off. Once I get those mounted, it'll be ready for paint.

Changed out the wheels/tires to something a little more scale. Modified Frog wheels (fronts all around, with rear outer sections) and hubcaps. Still working on getting the VW logos into the centers. Tires are ancient Kyosho Option House Dunlops, probably the last set on earth.

Hey,
You really got the shape of the VW !!! I guess it's foam but where do you get that size boards. You really got me thinking. On what platform is this made on?I have a older radio shack (old) chevy truck maybe I could mod that out??Could you give me some pointers??Great work.

The foam is Depron from the LHS, it's sold in 1x4 sheets under the name Midwest Cellfoam 88. Three thicknesses are available, 3, 5 and 10mm. This build uses 3mm, since I had a sheet left over. I usually use 5mm for bodies.

I keep meaning to write up a how-to tutorial, but I'm having too much fun building

Chassis is a Tamiya Frog.

Alright, I haven't had time to follow all the foam body threads, so someone please enlighten me on the Foam and Epoxy creation thing. PLEASE, I need more info or links. I must know, I wannna try.

Oh and the VW thing is one of the best VW's ever created, I would love to own one and I think the next CC01 or TA02 should have a hard shell VW thing body, that would be freakin cool.

This ride is sweet and the fact you made the body, just makes it that much cooler, great job man.
