View Full Version : Mad's Blizzard GP DF-300 build up thread

Ok, I don't know where the Kyosho Blizzard GP DF-300 fit at under any category at this forum and probably this is the only forum right for it. Anyway, I got the Blizzard this past Christmas. Always wanted one. I liked the EP one very much, but GP is the way to go, since it's more realistic, when moving across the snow, it makes engine rev sounds just like a real tractor. This is not really a project build up, just gonna build it mainly stock with probably few mods. Gonna be a fun build.:D

The GP one is nitro, look at the box.:D

The box shows both the EP and GP version. So you get the EP, will get the box that I got in it, get the GP will get the same box. It's kind of strange for Kyosho do done that though.
Yeah, OldSchool, that happen to me, when I saw one here, it got me to get one. It's winter so we should try one out. :D

I want one pretty bad but they are kinda pricy for a kit:( even if they are one of a kind
Mad Racer
12-30-2008, 03:42 PM
They are really not that pricey. I got mine from Hong Kong for 200. Certain Kyosho products are cheap there and the Blizzard EP and GP is one of them. Around Canada and the U.S. they are pretty expensive though. But they are very fun from what I heard, so that's why I got one.

I can only find them on ebay for $270 + $65 for shipping were did you get yours?

Gonna use this servo for the best track steering on the Blizzard:

Yo guys, this maybe crazy talk from me, but I'm gonna stick with plastic and metal bushings on the Blizzard that includes them (it don't include any ball bearings). Why? They don't rust when water or snow get in it, while the ball bearings and probably even the rubber sealed ones can rust. Once they are rusted, they don't function right, the vehicle will make weird sounds, when running it and can cause damages around the vehicle if running it with rusted ball bearings. I'm not sure if anyone know this, but my father told me about this, don't really know if it will happened. Water and snow can only get in certain parts of the vehicle. Anyways, these things are slow, meant for moving slowly across any terrain and detail looking vehicle it is. Only if you have something really fast, ball bearings are necessary, but something like these don't really need them IMO.

ya i heard that also but ceramic bearings would be ok:D to bad they are really expencive:(

Mad Racer
12-31-2008, 12:28 AM
Yeah, certain BB sets are too priced and sometimes not worth getting. :D
I never order it online actually, I got help from a friend, he owns a hobby shop in Vancouver, Canada were he ordered the Blizzard from Hong Kong and sold it to me for a good price. But this is his website on his hobby shop: www.racingdevil.com

very true, must people that build scalers and mud trucks use metal bushings and a ton of grease for that exact reason. i would swap out the plastic for metal if you can however, plastic ones wear very quickly and then cause a lot of wear on other parts. Metals ones won't be suceptible to rust and will wear much better.
Mad Racer
12-31-2008, 11:27 PM
Yeah, I will mostly grease the metal bushings for the best smoothing as it can provide. I was wondering about the plastics to what I should do, there are certain plastic bushinigs that are so small, it is hard to replace them. But the smaller they are, the faster they would wear out. You think the plastic bushings (pretty small they are) that goes on the wheels will wear out quick?

Got the disc brakes done today, really straight forward, but doesn't seems to work that well, on the Making Trax site, those pads or something will improve the brakes right?
(Sorry about the pictures, camera was dropped on the floor before which now makes pictures a bit bad quality. It's starting to make me mad.:mad: )

Got the tune pipe attached to the engine and the QRC unit was already assemble from the factory, so got that attached on the chassis easily. That's it for tonight. Will get the engine on the chassis soon...
Again sorry for the pictures, this camera is really getting on me!!!

Haha, thanks Eric, good one.
Good idea Narumis, but I hated the Traxxas servos, I have many Traxxas vehicles and there servo never really last. I manage to found some basic servos(Futaba S3003) that were still like new that was stashed away in my workroom, so I decide to use that instead of sinking so much money in it, anyways, never intended to make this a big project, just something to play with in the winter.

I have not seen too many of these, looks awesome.
How deep of snow can these things push through?
Mad Racer
01-08-2009, 06:21 PM
I'm not really sure, just heard that these things are a blast to drive in the snow. I'm guessing that can move pretty well and can tackle fairly deep snow no problem, but again, not sure. Might put a plow on mine. :D

Mad Racer
01-12-2009, 09:53 PM
Thanks guys.
Yeah, I agree with you TJ, but other than that, it still runs great. Might need to order some of those if anyone or any hobby shop or probably even Kyosho make those as replacement parts.

Some action shots and a video.
(hard to drive and taking pictures and filming at the same time, so that's why the camera was still in the video and the pictures went a little blurry.)

Well what do you think??? What was your first impression of the steering? Great looking rig my friend!!Thanks! Steering was ok at the beginning, but when moving at very thick soft snow, it lacked in steering, never steered property. This is where Kyosho lets you adjust those steering linkages, so once I set it up again, it was perfect.

I never been around here in a while now. Why? Winter is over, it was long ago. So no snow, no Blizzard action. But the Blizzard can run in the dirt and stuff, but I don't use it for other terrains, don't know why, I just use it for snow purposes. So I guess it's going to be till next year's winter till I can get the Blizzard out and running again.
