I have a problem though the wing falls right out when I drive it does anybody know how to fix that?

Thanks

camiguel
02-12-2009, 07:03 PM
Dude how is it not standard or metric? something has to be wrong!!!

Maxx man
02-12-2009, 09:57 PM

So the wing wont stay in there, it seems like you need a new shock tower so it can stay in there. My guess is that play has developed in the holes for the wing mount making it fit losely not sungly.

Maxx man
02-12-2009, 10:52 PM
whats weird is that I got it like that:( but it doesnt matter tooooo much... caint wait till its fixed

Maxx man
02-13-2009, 02:54 PM
well Im finnally done reparing... I didnt add the titanium shock shafts yet becasue Im gunna do those when I put some oil in... I have no idea what oil to get... I like a medium soft stiffness ride for this buggy and I have the duratrax white shocks wich are soft what oil should I get?
Ill tell ya how the tires work but I have to wait for the battery to charge

yulp thats my plan first some shiny aluminum then a brushless system of some sorts... Im thinking a vxl ecs and a sencord novac motor:rolleyes: I really! like my vxl system in my slash but I want a sencord motor

camiguel
02-13-2009, 04:40 PM
Thats cool I think the shock oil you need is between 25 and 30 depending specifically how you want it to feel.

Maxx man
02-13-2009, 05:32 PM
sweet thanks... well Ive just run into another problem... the idler gear and the diff gear are striped... I thought it was just the pinion slipping off spur so I tightend it up and then the terrible nois:( the gears striped... if you really want pics I can post them...

so tonight Im probebly gunna buy a steel idler gear and an aluminum diff gear but that gear is for the nitro evader do you know if it will work?

Maxx man
02-13-2009, 11:21 PM
well I have good news and bad news... I went to the hobby shop and they had the gears I needed:D but the motor burnt out:( I dont know why  do you have to break in electric motors? or was it just geard wrong? I think it was geared wrong since the motor was HOT!!!!!! is there anyway to save the motor or is it trash?

camiguel
02-14-2009, 12:37 AM
What motor do you have?

Yes you have to break in electric motors and you probably were over geared.

Maxx man
02-14-2009, 12:45 AM
ya I figured that much out:((over gearing) but Ive never had to break in a motor before:confused: Ive always just run them slow for the first pack or two... how do I do it?

camiguel
02-14-2009, 09:00 AM
Run your motor in water for 3 minutes in a cup of water and youll be set.

What motor do you have cause it could be salvegable?

Maxx man
02-14-2009, 10:55 AM
It was a venom fireball... I looked and one of the coper strands was melted apart and I dont know how to wrap it back around:( man I cant belive I made such a nooby mistake:(

camiguel
02-14-2009, 12:36 PM
Is it rebuildable or not?

Im pretty sure you are talking about the winds and if you are you probably could put it back together but the performance would loose a little and it would probably run hotter.

If it is rebuildable then you can just buy a new armature (the thing that has the wind on it and were the brushes make contact.

Hope this helped.

I think the best bet for your motor would check your gearing and if you were going to upgrade any way move to brushless maybe? i mean it would be cheaper in the long run... Also do the rear tires rub at all when they are articulated? it seems they would that close... but i do not have one of those buggies so IDK. Hasta manana.:D

Maxx man
02-14-2009, 06:25 PM
hmm........................ I think I might just go with an upgraded motor not because I dont like this one but I want to race this one day so a nice motor is nessicary but Ill check into a new amature... if it costs more then$20 Im buying a new motor mostly because this was a $20 motor lol

and I did check the tires dont rub they are close but no rubbing at all

just went to tower and then dont have any ametures for this motor... will any other armeture fit?

Thats cool I think the shock oil you need is between 25 and 30 depending specifically how you want it to feel.

a 60wt should be good cuz his spings are soft

Maxx man
02-14-2009, 10:19 PM
my head is spinning about these oil wt's Ive never really set up a car... all I know is the lower it goes the less likely to roll over... the stiffer it is the better on smooth but hurts in the rough... a looser diff wont powerslide like a tight diff... but I dont really understand camber/toein and shock oil... or how adjusting the front diff effects driving on a 4wd car

Fiero_Man_121
02-14-2009, 10:24 PM
nice ride! always good to see a car rise frome the grave. as for oil, 35wt will do good in the front with 40 in the rear if you plan on just bashing. but 20wt f. and 35wt r. will hook up good on a track (track-basher buddy's setup)

bdw, motor break in is for wussys lol.

Maxx man
02-14-2009, 10:33 PM
k thanks... wadya mean about motor break in? Ive never done it before

Fiero_Man_121
02-14-2009, 11:35 PM
just bench run your motor, etc a few times at 1/2 throttle. if you dont have any facilities to bench run, just run the motor in the car without the pinion attached that way the shaft is free to spin.

edit: there are probably better ways, but thats what i was tought.

Maxx man
02-15-2009, 12:32 AM
is bench running just running the motor untill the battery dies?

camiguel
02-15-2009, 01:39 AM
If you are just gonna bench run it for the breakin use 4 cell battery.

Fiero_Man_121
02-15-2009, 09:31 AM
is bench running just running the motor untill the battery dies?

yes, to set it up secure the motor (a foam padded vise will work) then hook it up to a esc & rx. (if your using the xl5 then simply program it to %50 throttle and run the tx at full throttle) then charge up 4-5 batts and run them through while running about half speed untill they start to slow.

Maxx man
02-15-2009, 02:18 PM
sweet thanks... Ill be sure to do that... Ill probebly do it in the car without the pinion

camiguel
02-15-2009, 03:10 PM
Yeah it is alot easier just to run it with out the pinion like you are doing because all you have to do to go after 1 battery pack is to put the pinion on it.

KID
02-15-2009, 03:47 PM
Wierd, I've never broken in my orion v2's. After cutting the com, I just do half throttle until the rpm's pick up. Then I race it........:D

camiguel
02-15-2009, 05:28 PM
By doing the half throttle until speed picks up you are doing a break in;).

KID
02-15-2009, 06:46 PM
Lol.......I've never broke one in out of the box;)

Maxx man
02-15-2009, 06:59 PM
cool the water method seems a littel much for me

Maxx man
02-15-2009, 08:35 PM
hey does anybody know were I can get a 17t armature for under $20? tower hobbies doesnt have any 17t ones at all:(

camiguel
02-15-2009, 09:23 PM
I think you should upgrade to brushless and get done with brushes springs comms and armatures haha.

Maxx man
02-15-2009, 10:13 PM
I would but going brushless will cost to much right now:( plus one of the most popular racing classes is 2wd brushed buggy

camiguel
02-15-2009, 11:18 PM
What class do you plan on running stock(27t) super stock(19t) or modified( anything) cause those are the classes most places run.

Maxx man
02-16-2009, 12:00 AM
modified is brushed only right?

if its brushless then im gunna run super stock

camiguel
02-16-2009, 09:50 AM
Most classes alow the use of certain brushlesses such as the Novak sensored motors which are equivalent to certain brushed motors and not necesaraly what is on the can. So you should find out what classes your track runs inorder to buy the right motor the first time. Haha

Maxx man
02-16-2009, 02:09 PM
hmm... k I would buy a brushless but the funds are to low right now... maby later... probebly gunna get a reedy flash 17t or 19t

camiguel
02-16-2009, 05:27 PM
I am just wondering have you considered the Novak Havoc because it is a good sensored motor and did I mention it was good and it only cost 150.

Do you have a Comm lathe or not because if you have brushed motors you have to cut the comm every time you rebuild it and the cheap ones are like 70 clams.

Maxx man
02-16-2009, 05:52 PM
um... no I didnt know I needed one...:( guess Im saving up for the novac havoc... do you have to use a lathe or can I use something else?

camiguel
02-16-2009, 06:03 PM
Well what else is that that you are talking about because Im not sure if there is as I have always paid someone to cut my comm.;)

Fiero_Man_121
02-16-2009, 07:34 PM
if you wana go bl cheaply, yeah racing has good high turn bl motors

Maxx man
02-16-2009, 11:13 PM
hmm... do I want the vxl system, novac havoc, or cc sidwider?

KID
02-16-2009, 11:38 PM
I'd stick with brushed. You can pick up peak racing V2 motors for $20 on stormer. 9x1 would pop wheelies!...........maybe

http://www.stormerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/searchpn.pl?pn=&dterm=vantage&dterm2=&dterm3=&dterm4=&mterm=Peak%20Performance&instock=on&withpic=&oterm=&useoz=&advanced=&sthumb=on&catified=&weighed=&parents=&uterm=&smode=0&stype=&man=&page=0

camiguel
02-17-2009, 07:19 AM
I really dont think you would be able to gear that right on a buggy. :(

Maxx man
02-17-2009, 02:02 PM
the ecs I have only handles 15t anyway... I might go with 19t just to compete in that class but Im not sure yet... although my hope of going to the track are slim:( its $75 a year and is an hour away from my house:(

if I go brushed Im gunna get a reedy flash motor... I have one in my dark impact and I love it!

camiguel
02-17-2009, 05:36 PM
:DWell reedy is known for high quality products so I would assume that it is an amazing motor.

Maxx man
02-17-2009, 06:39 PM
Im still thinking about it... its a $40 motor and the performance of the fireball was pretty good while it lasted:( and that was only $20 im pretty short on cash to so the fireball may be my only option

LSXEric
02-17-2009, 06:40 PM
holmes hobbies 7t colbalt killer... :D

Maxx man
02-17-2009, 06:42 PM
do you mean 17t? cause 7t would kinda fry my xl-5 lol but Ill look into it;) do you have a link?

camiguel
02-17-2009, 06:45 PM
No he meant 7t but it isnt 540 I think it is a 670 can motor but I am not sure:confused:

Maxx man
02-17-2009, 06:48 PM
will the xl-5 even be able to handle it? will it even fit in the motor mount area? its a pretty delicate situation in that area so I dont want to go hakking it up

LSXEric
02-17-2009, 06:48 PM
Do some reaserch dude! and it would go all day long on your XL-5, because unlike the normal 3 pole armeture its a 7 pole. A whole different animal. Is also not a normal can the length of a 550 can with the diameter of a 280 can. Anyway its a crawler motor... that goes fast.

LSXEric

Maxx man
02-17-2009, 06:56 PM
wow that thing is awsome!!!!!!!!!!! but its $80 and thats out of my budget for a few weeks... and driving it fast in a buggy is asking for junk to get into the armature... unless I get an outerwere:rolleyes: but it is kinda pricy for me...

Maxx man
02-17-2009, 07:04 PM
plus I want to get to buying/building a wk

camiguel
02-17-2009, 07:28 PM
Ehh if you cant keep your current cars up then why buy another?!?

Maxx man
02-17-2009, 10:27 PM
well Ive wanted a WK for a LONG time now and I dont want this brushless for the evader and I am overly happy with my slash and the only thing I want for it right now is a new shell so Im plenty happy with it... the only thing I want for the slash is the outlaw chassie wich is in pretty good need and not much supply so Im just gunna be patient and wait for it to be in stock and maby come down in price a little bit

Maxx man
02-17-2009, 10:34 PM
Ehh if you cant keep your current cars up then why buy another?!?

OHHH ya I still have the stock motor I just found it the other day all it needs is new brushes :)

camiguel
02-18-2009, 07:18 AM
Ohhhhh ok :o My bad

Maxx man
02-18-2009, 12:33 PM

camiguel
02-18-2009, 05:23 PM
Yeah here in Indy we are in the 40s and 50s right now which feels hot compared to the negative 10 we had just a little bit a go. :)

anyway... does anybody else have a evader?

roadrunnr43
02-27-2009, 04:53 PM
i know the answer to your wing problem. loosen the setscrews under the wing,
and slide the bent-wire-mount, so the ends bend away from each other. that'll create tension in the shock towers.

Maxx man
02-27-2009, 06:37 PM
k Ill try that...
