well Ive had this old tamiya sitting around my rc shelves for a long while now... I got it from my dads friend who went to thailand for a missions trip... I removed the old mechanical speed controll (msc) and droped in an old duratrax streak ecs that has a 20t limit... the originall owner put tamiyas rebuildable motor to replace the stock motor... I removed the extra servo (of course) from the msc and I put a battery in to test the stock radio gear and it works!!!!!!! but I cant reveres the channal for the gas so I either have to have a deladed transition into forward or just pull backward on the stick (I plan on using my futuba 2pl and I want to put in a smaller reciever) all the springs are shot also the shocks are fine but the springs are dead so Im gunna need some new ones but thats for another day... heres the pics. the wires look messy but Ive got those orginized now

I must agree... but I dont want to break it... its kinda old... somtime from the early 80s and is actully originally from japan...so thats kinda cool I thought... anybody know of a good whell tire combo for sand? it uses hex's the same as my slash... I cant remember what size they are

sweet! i would save those old wheels and tires. They are very hard to come by! Glad to see the body's in decent shape too - mine's pretty beat up.

As far as wheels, both Tamiya wheels from the Baja King/Baja Champ or Dark Impact/Keen Hawk would fit. I have baja king's on mine, they look great and fit perfect.

You're making me want to bust mine out again, lol. i only drive it on pavement, replacement parts are hard to come by.

Maxx man
03-03-2009, 11:30 PM
ya I figured that parts are hard to come buy so I think I will mostly keep it as a shelf queen.. mostly it will be driven... possibly sand depending on if I can find any other then the beach cause I dont think people like rc stuph on the beach here in maryland...

I just had a problem... I put the 75mhz christal in the reciver and it wont work with my radio? is it because its an older reciver? are 27mhz receviers limited to 27mhz?

OldSchoolRC
03-04-2009, 12:21 PM
are 27mhz receviers limited to 27mhz?

yes, and vice versa with 75mhz band

Maxx man
03-04-2009, 04:43 PM
aw... that means I need to spend almost $100 in recevers:( cause if I ever want to get into racing the track doesnt alow 27mhz stuph:(:(:(:(

03-04-2009, 05:42 PM
I was about to post what you just said Oldschool. When I read your post I was like Dohh.

Nice car and dont make it a shelf queen. Run it just dont beat the snot out of it. You would be surprised how much more durable a car is if you dont go 50 mph and ramp it off what ever you can find. lol:D

Maxx man
03-04-2009, 06:01 PM
well I didnt mean shelf queen... maby like a royal servent... anyway the slash preload clips fit I just learned so now I can go drive it once the snow melts...

Ha a body clip!

Time for 2.4 gig nitrobasher, the traxxas one is 150$ for radio and reciver.:)

As for tires use sand paws, and any 2.2 rims should work. Traxxas rims can be bought for nearly 5$ for 2.

Maxx man
03-04-2009, 08:05 PM
ya but 2.4 gig still pricy for me:( how much is a reciever?

demo12

Nitrobasher its 150 for radio and reciever

Maxx man
03-04-2009, 09:03 PM
I went to tower and they have $175... but I want a radio with multiple car memory... so just getting the tq2.4 isnt really worth it since I cant have multiple car memory... so for now its just gunna be new recievers...

i picked up Futaba'a 10 model AM radio and receiver, 1 in 75 and 1 in 27mhz....i had quite a collection of receivers that i've picked up over the years, and they have all different frequencies. Good radio, pretty cheap, now i have all my cars programmed in, and i just swap out crystals and set it to the vehicle i want to drive. I also have an FM one for my nitros. When i go out, i only take 1 radio and my crystal clip and I'm all set. I have my 75mhz set up of off road, and 27 mhz for on road, so depending where i am planning to bash, i know which one to grab. Eventually, i'd like to get them all on the same frequency, but i always spend the money on other stuff. :)

Note in the comments section: "COMMENTS: This works ONLY with the RCD radios. Check out the SHREDDER Receivers for Airtronics and Futaba."

If you have a Futaba Radio, they are different shifts - hi-tec receivers will not work with them unless they are specificially for Futaba/Airtronics/Traxxas. If you have a Hi-Tec Radio, you're good!

What is shift? I had no idea, i found out the hard way when my radio and receiver didn't work. A Shift explaination, works for FM and AM i believe: If you live in North American you need to make sure the transmitter and receiver uses the same "shift". The transmitter could be positive shift or negative shift. An FM radio control transmitter uses two RC frequencies. The two RC frequencies are the carrier frequency (frequency corresponding to the channel) plus 0.005 MHz, and carrier frequency minus 0.005 MHz. So a channel 43(72.650 MHz)transmitter transmits on both 72.655 MHz and 72.645 MHz. With PPM one frequency stands for pulse on, the other frequency stands for pulse off. With PCM one frequency represents a zero, the other frequency represents a one. Positive shift is when the carrier plus 0.005 MHz represents a pulse on. Negative shift is when the carrier minus 0.005 MHz represents a pulse one. Other than that there is no difference.

no its got an old rebuildable modified motor in it... Im guessing 27t

camiguel
03-09-2009, 08:02 PM
If it feels slow throw in a tamiya black can to keep it fun but not so fast you cant even drive with out breaking it.

Just my 2 cents

Maxx man
03-09-2009, 11:04 PM
ya I might do that... its a vintedge motor anyway...

well Ive got an update... its not for the vanquish but for my dark impact... I like to call it my monster buggy now:D I do need to go down a few teath on the pinion since these are much bigger tires... I havnt driven it like this yet... its to wet and one of the tires are riped:( but I think it looks cool... Im thinking about doing a 7cell conversion chassie that might let me put a corr shell on:D but we will see...

so what do you guys think? just wondering

OldSchoolRC
03-17-2009, 11:06 PM
wheels are a little big for the body...with a 7 cell chassis and a 1/10 truggy body though, you might be onto something.

Maxx man
03-18-2009, 11:04 AM
ya thats kinda what i was getting at since a corr body wont fit even with the 7cell chassie conversion I may have to look around for a nice truggy body for it either that or a VW bug and I can have a reall baja bug

Hello,

I signed up for this website just cause I happend upon this thread... :D

I just wanted to say that the Vanquish is an excellent car. For the most part it's very robust. I've had mine since 1990 (it came out in 1988) and never really broke anything major. Unfortunately they are very collectable so parts are getting expensive. It seems that the most common parts to break (the C-parts front & rear uprights) are now made in aluminum by some e-bay seller. Sure they are expensive, but you never need to worry about breaking them after that.

The main thing to be careful of is the front gearbox where the shock tower connects to it. These parts are long sold out and the shock tower mounts are relatively fragile. This means don't accidentally run the thing under a car tire...

Ebay still has pleanty Tamiya hop-ups. The more choice ones would be the hi-cap dampers, the ball-race steering, and front & rear ball diff kit (with center locker & one-way options). These increase the performance tremendously, but are rather costly.

The motor you have is a Tamiya Dynatech O2H. This has a 13 turn rotor in stock trim, with a 10 turn optional rotor as a hop-up. Both the rotors and replacment brush assemblies can be found on eBay for under $20 each. The brushes must be replaced as an entire assembly with timing adjuster. It's actually a very nice piece of electronics made for Tamiya by Johnson.

Here is my fully hop-uped up Vanquish, just to show you what's possible with this car. This was built from the ground up from an Avante carbon chassis kit and every Avante/Egress part I could find. This is my favorite...

camiguel
05-01-2009, 05:41 PM
You should just drive it like any rc car you have as long as you dont act stupid Tamiyas are fairly durable adn I am sure you can still find any part for the vanquish if you look hard enough.

Those buggies look fantastic... Now those I would be afraid to drive...wouldnt want to get dirt on any part of those lol.

Maxx man
05-04-2009, 01:54 PM
I dont think I would break it but I dont want to find out the hard way if you know what I mean...

with my slash or emaxx I can just run over to the hobby shop and I know they have the part...

when It dries up a bit Im gunna drive it... its been raining here in maryland for 2 days...
