posting pics of my fiero earlier got me feeling guilty (on top of the fact that my boat build is on hold) that my vintage traxxas fiero has been so neglected. so im gonna rebuild it and clean it up to look new, then im gonna call up traxxas and start buying the parts i need to rebuild it with parts to spare!
edit: starting today, ill post pics frequently

thanks!
got more done, installed the front shocks (read: springs), wheels, axles and axle pins, and instead of the stock bushings i installed traxxas 5x11x8 bearings (same bearings as the vxl series) in the wheel.

installed the steering links, ball ends, servo saver and a foam bumper i jangafied from a 4tec stocker.

Traxxas second car ever and it seems like yours isnt in too bad of condition damage wise. Yet this is only a small portion of the car. ;)

its one of 2 of traxxas's first cars, the cat being the other, and unfortunately the rear end was so fd up i had to toss it. the previous owner locked the dif and to top it off, cooked the msc. the foams in back were ok but slightly chuncked so dumped them as well. the body was also slightly damaged as it had a crack going from front to back. they also cut out the on/off switch mount for no reason i can think of.
bdw i made a lot more progress !

Its starting to take shape. What do you plan on doing with it after you get it fixed up nice and purdy. If parts availabilty wasnt so horrible, you should race it and see how you do with a 22 year old car.
Fiero_Man_121
03-04-2009, 09:47 PM
i finished! i still need the strait axle, axle carrier/motor mount, bearings for the axle, and a bunch of small spares, plus a 540 motor to power it, but i did get the 22 year old servo and reciever working using the vxl esc, a spc batt and a resto-moded original trx stick controller.
edit: ill post completion pics and a quick vid tomorrow!

just ran into a really big problem, traxxas is out of everything. so now i need to find a machine shop, or else im screwed

ouch - what is wrong with the old parts?

as i said the whole rear end needed replacing, atleast now i can get it all made in aluminum which means brushless! my othe option is to look at the rear end of some new 1/12th pan cars and adapt them to work on the fiero.

i was gonna do speed runs and show it off at the track occationaly but now who knows what ill do

I think you should get the aluminum parts machined in the same shape that the original pieces were in order to keep it at least vintage looking because taking a 1/12 rear would be great for performance but would really make the value go down.

its not a car ill ever sell, but what you proposed is what i originally had in mind.

eh, im still upset that traxxas is out of everything, even screws! and to add insult to injury, none of the local machine shops do individual orders, only bulk orders. im still looking though.
Maxx man
03-20-2009, 11:56 PM
well... it is an old car so traxxas probebly wont have anything... have you looked on ebay?
Fiero_Man_121
03-21-2009, 12:03 AM

I WON WOOOOHHHHH http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=380151206311&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT
the pan car is a home made rig i think so no loss as far as the chassis
now im going to have to figure out a few things;
what pitch pinion it has
how to mount it to the fiero chassis
how hot a motor can i run in it, i was thinking 27t rebuildable stock
whos pants are these?:p
Fiero_Man_121
09-24-2009, 10:30 PM
well that chassis i won wasa pos. wouldnt even give it to my worst enemy:(
but i scored cuz it came with a tamiya porche 959 so :p
anyway, great news, im getting another fiero through a private deal and just in time to leave:rolleyes: but il be back home from the MEPS station by tomorrow night so hopefuly itll be in in time to do some fiddling with it and get it running *crosses fingers*

Fiero_Man_121
09-27-2009, 09:09 PM
nope, thats packed up too. but i plan on having that shipped to me either after basic or when i go to my permanant duty station (unless its overseas, than its time to buy an evader:D)
Maxx man
09-27-2009, 09:54 PM
just wondering why an evader?
and once again thanks for what your doing
Fiero_Man_121
09-28-2009, 11:24 AM
because if it gets lost during shipping its no great loss money wise and they are not too bad a platform (im not very aggresive when it comes to bashing)
Maxx man
09-28-2009, 11:26 AM
ah... I see what ya mean! I have the original evader bx (not the pro) when they had the rebuildable motors... its a fun car to drive but if you want a hotter motor you need a new esc too
Fiero_Man_121
09-28-2009, 03:02 PM
actualy, before i left the track we started a class called "classic" which is 1/10th truck and buggy chassis with a older car styled body like a old camaro or something. and we ran titan 12t's anyway, its a slow class and was really fun and i enjoyed running it (got a lowner ae cobeled chassis) and i really loved the slow class.
Maxx man
09-28-2009, 04:05 PM
I dont know that the evaders esc will handle a titan 12t... but Im not sure... sounds like alot of fun though! is it pretty open as long as its titan 12t motors?
Fiero_Man_121
09-29-2009, 02:43 AM
no, none of us ran evaders, all t4 and b4 chassis:D with i think only one or 2 losi's we had the titan as a spec motor since they are cheap and pretty easy to find. but after having run the class i really enjoy the slower cars (not crawlers though, too slow for me:rolleyes:)

Pretty sweet thread. Somehow I have missed it. I started at post 1 today, and looks like a fun build. BTW, I like that class you guys started, you really need to get a vid of that for us. It kinda makes me think of the RJSpeed diggers. Throw in all the old stuff, and go have fun, only you guys are racing. That would be quite an event. I am not sure that class would fly around here, everyone seems to want to run slashes, dirt oval modifieds, or truggy/buggy/MT class. Everyone is out for speed, not nastalgia or poor mans rat rods. I would love to see how you guys set those boogers up, body mounts, electronics, ect.
