Hey All; Well after a few questions on how I made my Slash Mud flaps here is a quick how 2 mod. But being broke limits your options but opens new doors to creative thinking. I wanted some flaps after seeing a few rigs and looking around my house for something that would work. Since I am a motorcycle mechanic I brought home part of an inner tube that had a hole in it. Then I went poking around the garage for something to hang the flaps from. I just didn't want to go spend a bunch of $$$ I don't have right now. So I found some Bamboo garden stakes we have for holding up plants. I tryed to find the staightest piece in the bag. So after 5 mins. of sorting out the overly bent ones I found one that would work.I was going to use an alluminum rod I had in my build room but thought something with some flex and give would be better suited for this duty.So here we go. This took my no more than 30 mins. from begining to end.So class let's get started.
Here are the Bamboo garden stakes and the rubber inner tube with some tools to get the job done.

I found a pretty straight piece and marked it just as long as needed. I didn't want it to stick out past the rims and tires so I made it just a bit shorter then the wheelbase of the Slash.

Now I needed to smooth out the ends of the Bamboo rod that the flaps will hang from.

Now you should have a rod of some type to attatch the rubber inner tube to.I also used a ruler to make a line down the entire length of the rod so the flaps hang evenly at both ends.

Now it is time to make the flaps and I got a few pieces of inner tube from a cruiser bike at work that got a nail and needed a new tube.I only cut out a section to bring home and add to the shop supplies for future builds. I don't need the entire tube laying around the house. I measured out a section and cut out 2 pieces the same size and shape so I would have extras and they would all be the same size and shape.

I marked the inner tube with a Sharpie and pulled out some sharp cutting devices and found some of the wifes scissors worked best.

I cut out a large section and then halved that section to get the flaps the right size. I wanted the top a bit smaller than the bottom to make it more scale looking like on some real trucks I seen. But you can cut them anyway you like.

Now we have our rod and our flaps and it is time to get to attaching the pieces together.

I was going to just use some ZipTies like others have done but I didn't have any black ties at home and didn't want to wait till I brought some home from work. So I went into the garage and got out my HD staple gun.So I tryed it out on some scrap and it worked fine.So I used 3 staples across the line I made for refrence to secure the glaps to the bamboo rod.

http://i180.photobucket.com/albums/x254/RCKrazy/EEEZZZ%20How2/Slasher013.jpg
Then I used some needlenose plyers to make sure the staples were fully seated into the rod.

Now comes the only tricky part. You can let them just hang. Or you can make sure they stay put. I used some CA glue to fully secure the flaps by rolling them around the shaft and securing the other side with 3 more staples.

So now there are 6 staples and CA glue holding the flaps to the shaft.
So here is what you end up with in the end. A shaft with some flaps.

I decided to get out some flat black paint and cover up the staples and to paint the green shaft black as well to blend it into the Slash's rear bumper cage.

Once dry it is time to attach the rod to the truck and all I needed was 3 black ZipTies along the rear center cross brace. Waaaa Laaa there you have it.These flaps cost me nothing to make and took less than 30 mins. form start to finish.

after some testing and so far so good.No problems to report they are still attached even after more than a few battery packs and some hard landings.
Well there you have it. My DIY for some Slash mudflaps that didn't cost not even one thin dime.Hope this helps and motivates you to throw away the box and rethink the wonderfull world of RC.l8r,w.
