Went and picked up my next vintage project today. It was an ebay purchase, but the seller was local, so we met up to save me on shipping. Got this for $35 with full bearings, stock 380 motor, and a steering servo. Best of all it's not a rere, and is in real good shape for being 25 years old. I just finished slapping an RX and ESC in it, and taking it out for a spin. Fun stuff. I have always been a big fan of the Grasshopper for their simplicity, and overall reliability and ease of maintenance. This particular Hopper will not remain a Hopper for long though, because my plan is to convert it to a poor mans Sand Scorcher. Work on the conversion will begin soon, and I will keep this thread updated with progress. On to the pics.

And here is a pic of a poor mans Sand Scorcher created from a Grasshopper that I recently saw online that inspired me to do this conversion myself.

Yeah Scorchers def bring in a pretty penny. WAY more than I'm willing to spend lol, but they def look cool. This should prove to be a fun project. Grasshoppers are a blast to drive, especially on some sand, and I plan to run a Sport Tuned motor in this once I get the body squared away so it should be a riot on the beach. I am still on the hunt for the body, but I have an Monster Beetle body here that I've been restoring for a friend that I retrofitted to the car today just to get my body mounts squared away, and see how things are going to look. Here's a sneak peek.

very nice!! even scorcher bodies fetch a pretty penny...if worse comes to worse, pro-line is back out with bug bodies and i've already seen a few used for builds ike this. they look pretty good! plus, if you are planning to bash, lexan can take it much better then ABS (and you're not beating on a very valuble body.)
I have a GH2 sitting in my shop for just such a project, just need the time to get to it!

Yeah Scorcher bodies do fetch a nice price. If you watch ebay and the forum classifieds closely though you can sometimes find some good deals on Monster Beetle, and/or Blitzer Beetle bodies which tend to sell for less than an original Scorcher lid, but still maintain the same look, and all the great scale detail. I will be doing up a lexan VW for this also that I will use most of the time for running, but for those trips to the beach it will be the ABS body on it every time.

You guessed it lol. It's all about the looks when out tearing up the sand, and for the most part I won't worry about it getting all trashed from rollovers, and other mishaps that occur when running in the street or yard.
