It stopped raining long enough for me to try my new Tower Hobbies 224/2.4 GHz radio today. For the money, this thing can't be beat! I looked at this little receiver with it's internal antenna, thinking "this isn't going to work too well," and was I wrong! I almost lost sight of the vehicle and never lost control - I ran it about 0.3 mile up and down the street before I couldn't see it (A small hill at end of road is where visibility is lost). It never glitched and is super easy to use, and is very lightweight and comfortable. I was running it in a Tamiya TA-04 with an AE Eraser 13.5 brushless system, and it worked great. I actually like it better than my Spectrum 2.0 DSM (the Tower one has better range by far). Now, I know for hard-core racers a DSM 3.0R or some of Futabas offerings are necessary; but, for the occasional racer or basher, check this thing out! For $80, it's a no-brainer. Will probably get some extra receivers when they are available (like $22/ea) for my other cars. The only downside is since there's no model memory; will have to bind when switched from car-to-car, but it's a small inconvenience for how well this thing works.

Should work well with the slash. Doestn't Traxxas have a 3 channel 2.4 GHz radio?

ya it does but I think its almost $150:rolleyes: I think I can deal with crystals and get some new batteries or the 16.8v esc instead

I hear ya! That's pretty steep considering it's got similar features to an analog radio. Maybe Tower/Tactic/Great Planes will make it in a 3 channel soon. I'm sure if enough people contact them with a need for it, they'd have to consider it. Like I said, will get another receiver and try it on my HPI Firestorm that has a Castle Sidewinder/5700 kV system...may be a while but will post how it works when I do.

I will always be loyal by AM. I'm going as far as modding a TQ3 with 3 position mod for my clods dig.

good to hear positive things about this radio!

if the tq 2.4ghz radio had multi model memory, id pick one up in a sec! the tq3 is the most comfortable radio i own! i think the m8 isnt bad either but its very top heavy (duh)

thanks for the little review. i wouldnt risk 80 bucks on an un-reviewed radio.
is there alot of adjustable stuff on it?
sounds like a great system.

The usual - servo/throttle reverse, trim for both steering and throttle, and steering rate. Similar to HPI's radios in it's latest releases. Again, pretty basic but good range with no glitching that I've seen. The "antenna-less" receiver is nice if you're using a body like the new cup racer's 240Z or 510 - no antenna would add to the overall scale appearance. Wonder how it would work in the new HPI Formula 10 - they're saying it uses a 4.8 volt stick pack, and the receiver uses between 4.8-6.0V - would probably need to use the included receiver "AA" pack to power receiver.

hey ta02 check out the airtronics mx-3 sport. its just $90 has 10 model memory and 3 channels. IMO for $10 more this beats the tower system dead

i was browsing the section and saw this thread, i wound up buying a tactic 2.4 radio and this thing has qickly become my go to set for in a pinch setup and just general use, the rx is tough as heck, every week it comes home filled with sand and clay, its been submerged quite a few times (on accident of course) and it just keeps ticking, the lack of an antenna wire is great as well since a few of my cars dont actualy have an antenna mount, the transmiter has all the basic functions (trim, reversing, steering throw) which is all i need for my electrics and the fact that it runs on 4 cells is great! this little radio was the best 70 bucks ive ever spent!

on that note, hobbyking now has those 30 dollar radio sets and 70 bucks can buy a lot more radio now but still. the tactic was worth it.

Hea your in luck. I bought the 14.99 radio and my friend just got the 27.99 one. So far my has performed well but haven't had it long yet. His is not tested yet but will try to let you know when he gets the car finished. For the money and just bashing myself I think it's a good radio hope this helps.
