ok well thanks to thejang on urc i found out what one of my newest purchases is, a beat up tamiya 959.
ok so i have a feeling this is over my head but im going to try anyway. i have a few questions
what pinion size does it have?
what kind of body will fit over this?
what size hex does it have?
is there a place where i can find instruction or assembly info? nothing to work off of so itd help to have some refrence.
its basicly a dirty hunk of plastic that id like to eventual get working. but by the pics do you think its worth it? maybe try to sell it as a parts chassis if its over my head
any help i can get on this one will be much appreciated

This is a 1/12 scale car, bodies might be hard to find for it. The originals - both the 959 and celica versions go for an absolute furtune due to their rarity.
Pinions I don't know, you'd have to ask some people who own them. Most people today have probably never even seen these cars, only us old heads are familiar with them. :) I believe Tamiyaclub has the manual on their site that might help, though you might have to become a member to get the full size version.
As far as the hex size, you'd have to measure them - there was no 12mm standard when these hit the streets so I imagine the wheels are proprietary to the car.
Rebuilding that one is going to be pricey and take some time....parts are very rare and don't come up for sale often, and the bodies and wheels are not cheap. Having said that, they are awesome cars and will keep its value pretty well if you decide to rebuild it.

Maybe check out some of the Tamiya 1/12 scale porsche kits - not sure of the chassis - I think it's a GT01. That chassis may be newer than yours; but maybe the wheels and tires will fit, and the bodies should fit. If you get it running again, post some more pics. If you go to www.tamiyausa.com and type in kit number 57101 under "Item number," one of the choices for that kit is the product manual - maybe looking at that would give you an idea if any of those parts will work on this. Good luck!

Just remembered - they (Tamiya) did make a 1/12 scale 959 kit - it was item number 58059. Could not find a manual. the picture you have doesn't look like the GT01.

Check this link from the 'bay:

That looks like your chassis. It is listed as a 1/12th scale.

well, i got it today, its pretty roughed up but nothing on it apears to be broken, ive yet to really look at it, been working on my racers :D
i have the needed pinion size so im not to worried about it. the wheel hex is definantly odd. i have to mesure it later and come up with a game plan, id like to make 12mm adapters to run touring car rims
post pics when i dive into it tomorrow or the next day
EDIT: im putting it away, ive got 3 weeks left, not enough time to start a project when so much more needs to be done
