Picked this up about 3 years ago at Radio Shack. Had a nice mustang hardbody, and had planned to build an Eleanor replica once my styrene skills caught up to my over ambitious ideas. Think I'm comfortable enough to give it a go, though thinking the GT350 does not get enough respect, so going for a GT350 build instead.
Tore it down, primered the body and started removing the mold lines, and picked up some wheels...the deep dish wide HPI wheels look simply awesome. Used the TA chassis I had set aside for another project and it's nearly a perfect fit.
Will be working on this side by side with the PUBO F150 while I have all the paint goodies out.

looks awesome!!!! funny thing is if it wasn't sitting on a table you would swear it was a full scale chassis and body sitting there waiting to be restored. Anyhow keep us updated!!! I for one would like to see how it comes along.

OK, decided not going with a GT350 theme, the '69 version looks terrible and not going to hack the body up to make it close. Might borrow some design cues, but just doing a street stang instead.
Anyhow, got some time this morning to work on the chassis. Stock was just a little too long, so mine's about 1.5cm shorter. Was thinking of using an MRC axle in the back, but it's just too narrow so sticking with the TA chassis as a base.
Plan and base chassis cut:

Mounted and a new top plate cut...did some finish work on the upper chassis, but plan to mill out the lower one as well. Both are going to be painted black I think. Swapped over all my original red chassis pieces to black as well.

new steering assembly - cut down some 1/4 inch aluminum rod as standoffs and modded yet another set of TA steering arms. smooth and silky!

New wheelbase...always measure twice!! :)

Got a little bit of bodywork done before shovelling for 4 hours today....needs quite a bit of sanding yet, but glued on and filler is drying. Not sure if I like it yet, have to get it sanded and shoot it with some primer and see how it looks.

With the hood you could do a weekend drag car style. Not to all-out but still looking like it could drive on the road. What color are you thinking? You could also do an interior, i saw a 68' mustang rc car at toys r us, horrible looking and the body looks like it could be shattered real easy but it had a interior and it was only $30. The seats looked nothing like the real ones but you could make some or add onto them to make them more realistic.
EDIT* I think it would look better if you shaved that lip off the bumper. It would look alot more original
EDIT AGAIN* led's headlights and tailights, the body looks like it was made for them

That front angle shot....well, I'm lovin that hood. It screams muscle, and looks less like a Chevelle ss hood, and more of a "custom" "rat rod" kind of a hood. Something that someone would fiberglass onto thier hood and cut out the center. Nice. Those treads look sic on there. She'll look great when compleated. Another great start to an awsome custom rc from O.S.!!!

Thanks guys, no roll cage or anything like that for now, the widows are molded in black so not planning an interior. It's on hold for a now as painting is out of the question till it warms up a bit.

There's no body mounts yes, it's just sitting on there. Do love the rear fatties though :) Won't sit that low when done though, no clearance for those big meats.

Great build as always OS.. did you change the wheels, I don't think you did but from this angle I can't tell for sure? Personally I think HPI nailed it on the head with that vintage wheel. I picked up the more realistic tire thread to go on top of it. That TA mod looks to be your little secret. Do you think a TA will fit side to side under a lunchbox body? Thanks again for sharing your fleet of vehicles- lots of creative juices flowing

Thanks man, yes, the TA is my choice of chassis when it comes to modding. Very easy to work on and can be reasonable on the wallet too. Will not fit a lunchbox per-se, they are about 180-188mm wide depending on the suspenson parts used the the 'box is about 170 or so. Could be done certainly, but not really scale. Shortened M04 or M02 would be a better chassis, they are 160-170mm wide.
Vintage rims and tires are awesome, no doubt. Not everything rides on low profile tires. :)
Thanks for taking the time to check it out!
