This is the thread where you can tell us what you like about RC Driver -- or, gasp, what could be improved. We're looking for constructive criticism here, so play nice. What parts of the magazine are your favorites? What would you like to see more of? Have we dropped the ball in any areas? Are we just so perfect that you can't stand it?

I am a fan of pork fried rice. How could we combine pork fried rice and R/C Cars?
I still vote for my contest idea to increase members on the forum.......
I have a laundry list of "ideas" too!

Hey,
I'm not sure but it seems that we don't see enough articles about painting body shell. I like those articles.:)
I also like special project like the one you did about an RC baja with ski (not sure about this one, if it was a Baja 5 or something else but I remember it was a very nice article)
Maybe if you have more project from people, like drifters modifying their shell or else, that could be interesting.
Keep up the good work!!!

Speaking of paint how to's... A while back, Marty Korn held a little contest in which several top slingers were involved. The object was for them to paint a shell as close to his own personal design. He would choose a winner and use that body at an upcoming event. There was another mag that was going to cover this, but last I heard that fell through and he may be looking for someone else to pick up. Might be an idea to get in touch with him. :)

I think RCD has become my favorite...! To toss in my 2 cents, i like the custom articles and the interesting builds. Reviewing the same thing over and over (1/8 scale buggies, Anything associated and Losi) like some competitors gets boring. You need you cover the new stuff obviously, but stuff like the Crawer King, Ralph, the Steelers truck, the Jump Savage etc. are all unique and aren't just something you can buy off the shelf - good inspiration for the rest of us to let creativity run wild. Keep up the great work!

I'd like to see a few more things about Traxxas. I noticed that when traxxas came out with the 3.3 and the revamped electrics, it wasn't mentioned (except when the 3.3 was used in the ArenaMAXX).
My 2 cents.:)

How about an article that follows a build of a custom step by step. Kind of like the the one you did with the sonw machine, but do it more indepth over serveral issues. You could include templates and even parts lists so that the reader could follow along and learn how to build something like the really cool racing bronco in the SEPT. issue. I have always wanted to make a scale looking sand rails using a tube frame, but i do not know where to start. A how to series about scratch building would help me alot.

Hey, it works for them (I ain't no hater).
I could never figure that out, though; if you want to look at chicks, umm...for that reason...there are plenty of resources for doing so. Although it's certainly a common practice in some markets such as the import-tuner car publishing industry. I guess it depends on who you think your audience is. We try to cast the widest net possible to sell as many magazines as possible. RC cars are essentially toys -- let's face it -- and I couldn't see using half-naked women to sell Legos or Erector sets (don't even go there!). On the other hand (being the bastion of fairness I am...), if you consider RC racing a sport, like motocross or bmx, then, I suppose you're "skewing" to an older audience (although a lot of young kids read those bmx and bike mags too).

Here's my two cents, I'm seeing some really nice scaled rides out there. Jason has opened my eyes to this and it has me considering future projects. The boat thing...Not really feeling that. I am a surface RCer! Is there a magazine out there dedicated to planes and boats? I love seeing the dirt oval coverage! That was one of the reasons why I said to myself, I will not pick up another mag other than RCDriver! So I would love to see articles covering this subject. But just not Custom Works cars! There are a number of kits out there.
Also, I've noticed on one of my other favorite forum sites that VINTAGE is back! I've noticed Tamiya bringing back vintage models. So what about something towards the back of the mag spotlighting a vintage RC Model?
I'm sure I could continue to bore you all but that's about it. Dirtoval, Vintage, Scaled Realistic Rides.........still not feeling the boats. It's almost like Truckin' Magazine where everyone was complaining over the watersports section.

JohnBoy,
Don't knock the boats until you try them. I just got a boat this summer and it is a hoot!!! They are just as tunable and fast as the cars. besides, I am not aware of any magazines that cater to boats. So keep the boats!!!

I'm not knocking boats. I had a Traxxas Villian IV and loved tearing up the cove back home on Table Rock Lake. We spent all our spare time on the lake. So the RC Boat was fun. But I know there's a mag for planes. Don't know about boats though. But I tear through RC Driver for surface vehicles. I'm not complaining, it's interesting to see the boats, just thought that space could be used to cover more RC cars or trucks.
But I guess Bob H would get bored if he didn't have a boat article to cover. He looks to enjoy them too much. So keep the boats. Keep Bob happy.:D

After several subscriptions to the other ones.... I find this magazine has the best coverage of all aspects of the r/c genre. If you are into electric flip a few pages. Nitro, MT, you name it. And by far the best understanding that all of us aren't racers or drifters or custom builder super geniuses. If anyone falls into those categories no offense intended. Please keep up the good work and keep the spectrum broad enough to keep the hardcore racer or the solitary backyard basher turning pages.

I have to agree. I have one R/C mag subscription ! It's RCDriver. I have every issue from the begining. I was one who got the cheap full year price, being as the bi-monthly thing was not going to work out. I also feel the diverse coverage of all of the aspects of R/C is what keeps you guys on top. Also keeping the people real & out in the publics eye is a great feature some never get to see as well. I know, speaking for myself, Getting the chance to actually meet many of you at the I-hobby show was a great thing. I have had several chats live & on forums for years with staff members. Putting an actual face & hand shake with these, just made me even more of a life long customer. I would really like to thank you all for being very supportive of our community. I got to see you all in action & believe me when I say. These guys are real people, that stay extremely busy making sure they give us the best coverage possible in the R/C world. I would change nothing ! Just keep advancing on the awesome publication you already have !! Great work, from a Great staff of people !!! Thanks

I would be considered a noober goober so my suggestion might be lauged at. The magazine is seriously the best I have seen. I feel i can relate to many topics. RC Driver is an awsome magazine! I love the work bench area where I can learn tips on how to repare or clean my rc cars. The only thing that I can think of that needs improvement, please don't chew off my head, would be to take more pictures and write more about about rc monster trucks. Just like when there was a monster jam, and there was a Ford F150 monster truck sporting a new T-Maxx body. That would be a great topic in the rc magazine. That is the only bit that I can think of.

First off I would like to say your mag is one best over all rc mags out there. I really like reading the replay articles b/c it steers people in the right direction as to what hop ups and setting changes could be done to make the car or truck that much better. My only gripe would have to be when you guys cover the big race events and post the standings of each class and not what they are driving and what equipment they are using.

Buyers guides are good and appreciated. I reference them even months later to get some quick information on something.
I am a huge fan of flashback stuff. I am an RC Nostalgia buff. Having NIB 80's kits and grown up in the RC boom of the 80s I always enjoy retro reviews. I would love to see a 1-2 page writeup monthly on a piece of 80s hardware. One of the other rags does it, I can't remember which.
Scale stuff is great. Scale RC'ers never cease to amaze me with their creativity and attention to detail. I eat that stuff up.
The girls are ok in the other magazine, but it does seem a little creepy. I agree that you don't need to follow that path.
Giveaways are awesome.

Hey Guys..
I was only just introduced to your rag a few months ago and I found it quit informative, but I did notice that there was a lot of articals on new trucks and rides, a number of comparisons and not enough artical about reader rides.
I, for one, build most of my trucks from scatch, there not all heavely modded trucks, a number of them are stock, with the odd mod here and there, but I have a couple that are totally modded and some have been put together with little or no directions whats so ever.
One guy here mentioned something about making a rail buggy or something of the sort, see below for a pic of a frame I spotted on eBay, which was made in a limited number for something special, I can't remember exactly what for, but articals on old time rides and customs would be great.
Its always interesting to see what other come up with and how they managed to make things work, even when you'll never use there ideas.
You maybe building a truck and something just doesn't work for you and you say to yourself (not that I talk to my self, its only when I start answering myself, is when I get the funny looks)now how can I make this work....oh ya, I remember seing that in RCDRIVER, now that might just work!
Don't get me wrong, the artical on the latest rigs are kool, but I'm sure there are a lot of guys, and gals, that like to implement some of thier own ideas into thier trucks and It might not be a bad idea to share some of these great ideas on a larger scale.
I beleave this pic is of an early RC10 racer, but not 100% sure. it was produced in a limited number and fetched a hefty price on eBay.
http://i160.photobucket.com/albums/t180/Taqrin/RealRacing_01.jpg
Maybe when people sends in pics of thier modded rides, you can check into it and do an articals on them.
I know you have a section on reader tips and tricks, but I havn't seen much on compleat rides.
Thats all for now, I may throw some more ideas your way later.

I have started a thread in the lobby called "your first time in R/C". This thread was for people to show how they got into the hobby and to share with others. I have gotten great response to this thread and think if you guys run out if ideas in the magazine you could take posts off that thread and use in the mag. It would be different ,and maybe you could give a T-Shirt or something to that effect to the people who you select for use in the magazine. Since I am the thread starter I remove myself from such contests so as to give the people who replied a better chance. Just a thought. Plus it may help to get more people involved in the forums.

Im really into gas powered anything. currently i like truggys but thats mainly because i feel they are the most durable and i want to spend my time driving them not fixing them. I do like the occasional drag racing or tractor pulling coverage. i wish the race coverage was a little more in depth too. i am interested to see what the winning drivers are using for tires other than "pro line or panther". were they crime fighters, switches or what compound? what pipes are these guys using and what diff fluids are they running. i know alot of guys are secretive about this stuff and i know it changes through out a weekend but what did they use in the A main or what was thier strategy? I was also into minis but they seem to be too fragile and i keep destroying them. i am probably also in the minority but i just cant seem to care about electric cars no matter how fast they go. I know some people really dig them but i dont.

There are couple of things I would like to see, if anyone else agrees.
1. Some quick recaps of smaller races, doesn't have to be to the extent of the national coverages. Maybe one page covers four races randomly from throughout the country. Results and a couple of sentences for highlights. Give some props to the non-sponsered guys who can't travel all over to make the big events.
2. When you review a vehicle, rate it on two scales. One stock set-up out of the box, and then another rating for potential. This would be useful to the noob for their quick start-up reference and to the experienced racer/basher for their potential investment.
3. More info on what might be up and coming. For an example, I know some of the guys tied in to the RC industry (i.e. magazine editors) probably heard a new E-Maxx was coming out. But I also know two buyers who didn't know and they bought the old version about 1 month before the new one was released. The same thing happened with the Losi 8ight-T. Guys didn't want the RTR and didn't know a Race Roller would be coming out.
Thanks guys, and whether you use the info or not, still love the mag. Keep up the quality work.

I've started reading RC Driver a short time ago. This magazine is what motivated me to buy my rc truck. I like the magazine just fine sofar. The only thing that I can think of to add is a section that rewards outstanding hobbyshops and owners by giving them alittle recognition.maybe this will boost the morale of some hobbyshop employees if they think they have a chance of having their name in RC Driver.Maybe take a poll online from dedicated customers of these shops. Other than that,I like as much information on repairs and customizing or upgrades of RC vehicles as I can get. Thanks for getting me motivated...:D

This chassis was a custom production run from a number of years ago for a special event of some kind.....not sure who made it. I spotted it on eBay and there wasn't much details about who made them, just that it was in a limited run and there are only a few still hanging around.
I have some more pics of this frame if your interested
It would be nice to see another run of these hit the street, I for one, would buy one, maybe even 2 or three just to have....
There is a Pro-line sticker on the front, but not sure if that just a sticker of a manufactures label. I'm thinking Team Associated.....

Great mag. It is way more family friendly than the others. Need a crawler shootout. Let us know what some of the upgrades that are needed to make them comp. ready. Need to start updating the rc terms. Their are other words people need to know about. Like dig for crawling. When you cover the races we need more info.. It has been stated before that we would like to know more of what gear they are running. Its too bland what you tell us for now.

I get all 4 of the popular rc magazines and this one is by far the best making it my favorite. You guys always have more reviews per issue which is the most important part of the mag imo. All I have to say is the more reviews the better. Its makes me consider vehicles that i normally would never consider. Also i know electric is becoming more popular but please never forget the nitro and never let the electrics take over the mag. Also I would say show some crawlers but leave the rest to the crawler specific mag.

My thoughts are to bring back flipside comics, and to have less truggys and buggys, and more monsters!

FWIW, and the postcard was mailed only a few days ago, RC Driver won my subscription by being the best about the subject matter without using female props to gain readership. I would like to see an article or two about female RCr's. Most guys would cringe at the thought of being beat in any competition by a female. But my motto is; may the best PERSON win. The playing field is level. Don't be shy ladies. Write the editors about your accomplishments!

You guys have the best mag setup of any mag I have read (and its my favorite) but i would like flipside comics back and more reviews on 1/10 scale off road stuph like tamiya traxxas duratraxx hpi ect nitro and electric since they are far cheaper and some are just as able of even more (plus thats the scale i drive lol and i dont have a paved driveway)

I am going to comment on both the magazine and the forum. The magazine no doubt is the best out there.I subscribe to another magazine also  and the other sub will lapse and that will be that.RC Driver I feel covers it all, Now that rock crawling has taken off maybe a bigger section for the crawlers.I would like to see more of the older Tamiya big rigs ! They have been a lost part of RC.But all in all great work RC Driver. The website could use more control on the language filter. Some stuff gets posted and should not be on this family site.maybe get some more Marshall's to help with enforcing the rules.

Daveo

rc driver is my favorite mag but there is one thing that is missing, THE FLIPSYDE COMICS!!! I mean, what happened? They were awesome!!!
i really like the custom trucks and cars articles.
I would like to see more pages of reader rides.
If you look in dirt bike/quad magazines, the have a few pages full of there readers rides.

O.K. it's a new year & I guess I'm entitled to another entry here.
Here is the real deal. I'm just recovering from a 4 day I-Hobby experience again. As part of a business that has full page ads in several mags.. I have something I must say on top of what most see in the Awesome magazine. This crew is second to none !! They are true hobby guys like most of us here & enjoy the vehicles for what they are. They are out and covering the hobby scene as it needs to be done. When you never forget what it's like to get your first new car home & even the smells of the new rubber & plastics. You know you belong as an RCDriver subscriber. The people involved still feel the same way, just as I do. I think there are lots of reasons to be involved in this hobby, but I also know the RCD crew, are involved for us the subscribers & most importantly because they love this stuff !
Special thanks to Bob & Greg & Janet ! You guys really make people know who cares.
P.S. Thanks to Bob especially on the the tip about the FREE shoe polisher. Hard to get service like that for free, especially in Chicago. :D

Just wanted to say that I enjoy your mag. One of the main reasons that I subscrive to your mag and none others is because you are more family friendly. No cursing and not many half naked females. I would like it if you could show even less, and do something about those XXXMain ads. I still cannot allow my son to freely look at it until I edit it(black marker).
I also miss the P.A.R.T.S. section and Replay.

I think you should do 2 things
1. bring back flip side!!!
2.put a setion for each class (on road racing, on road racing, drifting, drag racing,...) or each type (electric and nitro)

ok get this, i was reading "Hot Rod" and what they do every year is they
have a 'ride of the year' sort of thing where they pick out of the previous year
ten cool hot rods, and label the awesomest, hot rod of the year.
now that would be cool if rcd did something like that with showoffs
(of course this would call for more space in the showoff section ;))

Who moderates the forums?
Greg B
12-17-2008, 10:25 AM
Several of us moderate when we can. It's almost a full time job.
For anyone that has been with RC Driver over a period of time can say for sure that changes have been made. Every year, it gets better. I like the lay-out of the mag much better. I also like the racing article that is done by Dan Gomez.
Greg B.
Greg, is there any way to get more "readers rides" and "letters" in the mag? When I look in my ATV/dirtbike mags, there are a few pages full of rides then another few pages of letters.

Hey RC Driver gang, I was wondering (if you guys have not done this already) if you guys could do more coverage on Electric On-Road vehicles. It seems like the electric R/C On-road trend (and soon to be 1/8 off-road) is catching on like wild file with very long run times with A123 cells and LiPo cells. Plus with higher speeds to rival that of very well tuned Nitro engines!
I know I made this suggestion a while back on the MaxxTraxx forums many moons ago, so I am saying it again! :) But if you guys have done extensive coverage on Electric On-Road cars, can you refer the to that issue? I will purchase it. Also, in addition, can you continue the coverage on future electric R/C on-road, 1/8 off-road, and the up and coming 1/8 on-road? Plus I think Nitro R/C may eventually start fading slowly away as oil begins to start rising again, to the point where Nitro fuel is going to be too expensive to bother with. Not saying it will disappear, but it will go the way of the electric car scene before LiPo batteries and BL motors were mainstream.
Furthermore, the suggestion about more monster truck coverage; almost everybody and their bathroom sink owns one. Almost every magazine, including RC Driver has written about these things until every positive and sometimes negative adjective has been used from the dictionary. Don't get me wrong, I love Monster trucks and even own an E-Revo myself! But the amount of attention these things get is like watching Britney Speares being herself. It's too much to bare!
Keep up the excellent work guys. RC Driver has not faltered from when I last remembered y'all.

Well, I just picked up my first copy of RC Driver today and all I can say is WOW!! I've been reading and subscribing to RC Flyer for a few years and have been thoroughly impressed with that publication, and as far as I'm concerned RC Driver has exceeded even that level of quality! The content is quite simply fantastic. There's so much in there it's nearly to the point of information overload!
I think you can count on another subscriber as soon as I'm able!
