Hate to say it, but In general Traxxas electronics are of pi$$ poor quality. There's really not a whole lot to be done to preserve these motors aside from not running them.

Have three...all running ok. How are they wearing out? bearing area? brush and comm area? (most common) The motor is in a very rough position hanging out behind the rear gearbox and gets beat with stones, dirt, and debris off the front and rear tires. Couple things you can do:
Flush the motor with motor spray after each day's running. Especially, the armature and fan area, they tend to get really clogged with dirt.
Invest in a motor cover like one from outwears or make your own with light foam. This will help keep dust out.
Keep the bushings well oiled!
some other basics: Gear mesh ok? Any binding in the drivetrain? Gearing ok? If the motor is too hot to touch when you are done running, it's working too hard and it's going to burn up. Check the three above to keep it from working too hard.
Hope that helps - they are not rebuildable in any way, so they are a toss out. My oldest is still kicking, though its really starting to show some wear after about 30 packs or so.

os says it right, a filter from outerwears, oil regularly and gear it right.
the other thing you can do is break it in in a cup of water when you first get it and run it in water regularly (every few run days) to flush out the icky stuff since those fans in the endbell suck just about everything into them like a vacum from he11:eek:
