Hey All;
You all have modivated me to start my TLT-1 Maxclimber Crawler project.It has been sitting under my work bench softly weeping and sighing in discust when other projects get put in front of her. My wife got it for me for this past christmas and I have felt a little overwhelmed by the tought of the build up and large amount of paypal bills. Well I am starting a notebook of hop-ups and must have goodies. I have gone back to all the back issues crawlers and read everything I could find.So far all I have on hand is the TLT-1 NIB,some T-maxx friction pegs,an Integy 65T lathe motor,a Novak Super Rooster ESC,a 7cell 4200 NiMh batt. pack,a GPM blue alloy chassis (Freeby).That is all I got. My wish list includes beadlock alloy rims, Billet axels, Carbon fiber goodies,ECT... My Question to you all is what do I have to have and what should I stay away from ??(I.E. junk). I am open to any and all possibilities.I want to lengthen and widen the wheel base.Also run bigger hex drives and rims.The only limitation is I am not a machinist nor do I have access to a lathe or anything like that. Also I'm not willing to drop a limb or 2 to build this thing.Thanks in advance for any and all ideas submitted to help me POP my climber cherry:D .Later,WrenchHead.

It sounds like you have a good start going.
You can use just about any 2.2 wheel with a hex drive, the tlt1 is 12 mm and most wheels will fit without issues.
you an also fit a traxxas tranny in place of the tlt1 as it is a little better than the one you have in it now.
Just keep collecting parts and get that thing built up and running...:D

I'd run a R2 transmission from RC4wd...that or a tranny from an electric Stampede/Rustler/Bandit.
What type of crawling do you want to do? Do you plan on participating in competitive crawling or do you just want to build a cool scale looking crawler?

I want to build a crawler that will hold it's own.What is so wrong with the stock trans.? How much modifying will I have to do to run those other trans.?I like the look and quality of Tamiya stuff. I have built a few for some clients but they were all stock and one was totally tricked out in all alloy hop-ups. So since I am familiar with them that is why the TLT-1 was on the top of the list.A local crawler guy has threatened to help me for a year now.I know where that is going.(nowhere) I was looking at extending the chassis by 60mm and widening the whell base by 32mm with an online kit.I have kept all the crawler articles from all the different mags I could find and have started making a list of things I want to do to it.Carbon Fiber here Billet Alloy there and some titanium for good measure. I don't want to go overboard on the funds side of it,but I do want something not out the box stock.I want to do a realistic hard body for the scale realism you guys have showed me the only limits are funds and your imagination.I went to Target and Wally World for a few ideas on the shelves of the toy dept.Where online can I go for some info and ideas to help me along this long road. I have a friend who has a rock wall in his front yard for his drainage ditch and it would be a killer crawler wall.Showed it to the wife and she likes it.So now I will see how much $$ for some rock so I can have my own crawler wall right outside my garage door.Any and all help is greatly appriciated,Thanks All,Wrench.

i have been using mine in various stages of mods (stock to pure crawler to the current clod/TLT combo) for about 3 years now, and the stock tranny has held up fine. Haven't replaced or broken anything yet. The only issue with it is the high cg compared to an aftermarket tranny, and it being somewhat open to the elements, but so far no issues. I have only run it with a 17t motor tops though, but had it geared to the moon and it has held up fine. I used Rulon pegs to lock up the center diff from day 1 and it has stayed locked and was a cheap clean idea. Overall it should hold up i think until you're ready to remove or upgrade it.
I cannot say the same the the axle shafts, i have broke 2 when i was running with the diffs locked and 4WS. Since i unlocked them for more scale duty, they have held up ok. RC4WD has some HD ones i believe.
just my .02.... :) Enjoy the TLT, it is a cool truck!

With the stock trans the belt will eventually slip if you get into some good, hard crawling.
To run the other trans isn't much of an issue.
http://www.reignrc.com has some inexpensive chassis that would serve as a great base for building a rig.

Nothngd wrong with the stock tranny. I didn't like how hight the COG was due to the high mount position of the motor. Another thing is it is loud, or at least mine always has been? Oh and just put a pulley tensioner in to stop the belt slip. I did as soon as I built mina and she hasn't slipped once!
