hi
im having a problem with my truck. its my pullstart. it doent seem to be engaging and it just spins freely, same thing with my drill start. i havent taken it apart yet. just wanted to know what you guys think it might be. i had this problem a while ago, but i just went away, and now it came back. lol. the pullstarter isnt that old either, ive only used it 5-10 times.
thanks

the one way bearing inside the starter is slipping. You could pull it apart and try cleaning it with a nitro wash or denatured alcohol. That will work for awhile. But you may eventually need to replace the bearing.

David's suggestion is the right thing to do (see, David?):D
The root cause is oil from the fuel working its way past the backplate bushing and getting in your one-way bearing, which indicates that the bushing is getting worn, as is the one-way bearing and pin.

I have seen a leaking exhaust gasket allowing spent fuel to run between the recoil and the engines backplate. This can cause the one way bearing to slip, not to mention gumming up the recoil rope.:(
Of course the fix is a new exhaust gasket and making sure its a tight fit. For cheap insurance, I run a small bead of silicone sealant along the top of the recoil housing.
