Agreed, the tribal is way cool but that fire is amazing. Looks like Mike Lavallee's true fire..

I really like the fire, but the tribal part takes away from the fire some (IMO). Maybe if you were to have a tribal theame on the boat, and then have the fire go over that (it would really make it look as if it is on fire then) then I think it would look even better.

I think it's cool (hot) as is - especially considering that it went from sealer to clear in ~ 2 1/2 hours.

There's so much you can't see in the images...

The clear makes it look a lot better (along with the side pic)

That's one frikkin' big boat!

Very clean job all around... two thumbs up!!!

Is the very rear of the boat black, or a deep blue?

JasonC

Here's the paints used, all House of Kolor.

Epoxy primer (black) sprayed on the hull.

Black basecoat

Rear of boat was given a coat of Electric Blue Metallic - which fades into the front portion of the hull. The area under the graphic looks black but it actually has a slight hint of blue flake. The sun has to hit it right to make it pop.

After the Electric Blue was sprayed the tribal mask was applied.

Some HOK yellow was shot on the nose of the boat to serve as a base for the flames.

HOK Mandarin Orange was used to lay down a good bit of the flames.

HOK yellow was used to add in a few flames

HOK candy apple red added into the flames

Entire boat was given a dose of purple pearl.

Tribal mask was removed and boat was given clear.

This doesn't count the detail that was done to the cockpit, just covers the major paint work on the hull. The cockpit was worked over with some blue and black to give it a bit of depth and add some detail.

That is sick...normally not a big tribal guy (maybe it's because I was drunk in Australia and got my first tattoo, yeah a Tribal). But that thing is just plain sick. I was going to suggest pinstriping the tribal in neon green or something to make it stand out. But that was after a quick look. After looking, I saw the detail of yellow surrounding the tribal on the aft most part. The blue, I love it. But I'd hate the price tag!!! HOK on an R/C product...I've got awhile to go before that's in my budget! :D

Johnboy....brace yourself.

Paint work alone is in the 'hood of $500-600. I got the Homie Hookup, though. ;)

The initial plan was to put down a bright flourescent yellow base and work from there...

Ken called me while I was on the way over to his shop..."Hey man, it ain't gonna be yellow. I just checked and I'm runnin' low on yellow and it runs $115 a quart. How's black sound?"

Works for me.

Sick boat there Jason, one question? how ya gonna go crawlin with that? it looks like it is going 500 mph just sitting still.

JasonC
10-14-2007, 10:52 PM
Greg has taken this boat rock crawling at 40MPH once already.

The hull suffered extensive damage but has been repaired and is slowly finding its way back to the water.

To get these shots I just bolted all the damaged running gear back in place. The engine and such weren't in the hull.

If things go as planned the inside of the hull should be just as nice as the outside.

A boat
A rock crawler
An airplane
A woodchipper

I'm not giving him the transmitter after the rebuild. :D
