I am a VERY satisfied new Savage X SS owner. Went all out on this bad boy too. Axial .32 spec 1s engine, Spektrum DX2, Hitec steering servo, relocated the Spektrum steering servo to handle the throttle/brake duties and have the Integy piggybacks on the way. My son and I have literally tried beating this thing into pulp! (We now personally think we have a better chance of seeing God.) The only thing I can't seem to get under control is the brake screws. They back out every time we run, and I have already replaced one brake cam/piston. I have tried blue loctite, but no luck. Is there any remedy for this? I have not tried anything else, yet. Hopefully someone can recomend a more permanent fix? Other than that, this truck ROCKS!

Rotate the brakes and make sure nothing is bent. A bent rotor can pull the screws out of the case. Since it seems this is an ongoing problem for you, Is the case stripped out and not allowing the screws to hold ?

When all else fails, a few drops of CA glue will hold it but may mess you up later.

Thanks Greg. Since I had already used the blue loctite, this funny feeling came over me to look in the tranny. I found where the loctite went!:D I will need to replace a few things, the 2 speed shifter and bearing are locked completely up, and the rest of the gears need a good cleaning. And you were right, somehow the screws stripped the tranny housing. I've been into rc's for almost 6 years and this was the first time in along time I feel like a rookie again! I am seriously considering an aluminum housing, so do you know some links I can check out?

Thanks again
Jim

Jim,
Grp made one of the better aluminum housings for the Savage. I have purchased a few from a seller on Ebay that goes by the name RC mall.
I have found that a few problems have came along involving the Savage xss and the new Savage x 4.6. The screws didn't receive loctite at the factory that holds the gear to the 2 speed hub. The first signs of the problem is no shifting and if caught in time, can be fixed without futher damage.
The plastic housing works great, just be sure to use loctite where it's needed. Do not apply any grease to the internal gears.

If you need further help, feel free to email me at savagehappy@yahoo.com

Hey Greg,
Finally got the new tranny housing and the clutch/2 speed mechanism. This time I made sure everything was dialed in right, especially the washers that hold in the brakes. The hole by the brake cam has very little meat for the screw to stay in place, but If I have ANY trouble out of this setup again, I plan on trying plumbers tape to help with stripping. Anyway, thx for the input, hope you have a great holiday and as soon as I log off, I am going to do some bashing. On Dec. the 12th!
