Zach was a normal child whose life was full of play and laughter with his twin brother and older sister until the day “his leg hurt”. After several trips to the Doctor, which included checks for a sprain or break, he was referred to a specialist for follow up. The news was earth shattering, CANCER, and not just any cancer, but a rare very serious form with a lower survival rate. Thus the fight to save Zach’s life began.
Zach has undergone 7 rounds of Chemotherapy, Tumor Removal Surgery, Double Bone Marrow Transplants, 14 (x2) Daily Rounds of Total Body Radiation, Localized Radiation, and Several Bone Marrow Aspirates, CT and MIBG scans EEG’s and MRI’s of his head, neck, chest and full spine all with sedation.
Zach has been in and out of several hospitals and clinics nationwide, most recently and the most effective, best known for their pediatric cancer treatments, Memorial Sloan Kettering in New York and currently undergoing Immunotherapy and 3F8 Antibody Treatment and high doses of Acutane in hopes he will overcome this disease.
Zachary has currently been diagnosed with what physicians call “Relapse #1”. He has a .7 centimeter spot of possible disease close to his right lymph node. The physicians cannot do anything UNTIL it grows to 1 centimeter. Knowing this, the family is preparing for extensive medical care. The cancer has “awakened” unfortunately and Zach will need to undergo more Chemotherapy, Radiation, Bone Marrow Transplants, Surgeries as well as several other procedures with no guarantees of cure.
Zach's Dad competed in 1:1 rock crawling events with a buddy of mine, Jason Hensel.
Jason and several other 1:1 crawlers hang out on Pirate4x4.com. Zach's parents, with the help of Maxxis tires, were selling bracelets to help pay for Zach's on-going cancer treatment and operations. Since Jason owns rccrawler.com he brought the story over to his site. Months ago (January) several of us bought the Maxxis bracelets to help support Zach...now we're kicking things up a notch.
This weekend we're doing something special on RC Crawler (http://www.rccrawler.com) for Zach and his family (you'll have to visit the forums on Sunday to see live updates) that will definitely put a smile on Zach's face.
Once you sign up on the forum you'll be able to donate via paypal if you wish.
If you don't want to just donate, we'll be holding an auction of various RC items with all funds generated by the auction going to Zach's family.
All of the Admins, Moderators (I'm a moderator there), and Vendors on RC Crawler have donated both new and used items such as chassis, wheels, tires, ESCs, etc... Myself and all of the Admin/Mods have also donated cash via paypal. So if you see an item you need in the auction you'll have a chance to grab it and know that all funds will go to a good cause.
This isn't about raising money for a website, it's not about promoting a website, it's about a group of people with a common interest joining together to help a 3 year-old that needs it.
It bothers me to see my own 3 year-old son with an earache...I couldn't imagine what Zach's family (and Zach himself) is going through.
If you want to see a brief synopsis of things you can click here (http://www.rccrawler.com/forum/showthread.php?t=92713) and here (http://www.rccrawler.com/forum/showthread.php?t=58892).
So stop by this weekend and do what you can to help out. $10, $20, or whatever you wish to donate or buy in the auction will go to Zach's family.
Considering that most of us in this hobby don't hesitate to spend $25 on a new body, $15 on a set of tires, or $100 on an ESC...get over there, donate or pick up some items at auction, and know that you're doing something to help a kid in need. He's literally in a fight for his life.
