I had this 57 Chevy lid sitting around for a while, so I decided I wanted to do an old school hot rod look paintjob on it. I had a few problems with my brush, and unfortunately it did not come out as nice as I had hoped for, but it still looks decent so I figured I would show it to you guys anyway.

I did one of the 56 Nomads too, only mine had a more classic two tone paint scheme, burgundy and silver. And yeah, these are definately a pain to paint with all the chrome trim. The 57 was even a bigger pain because it is a three piece body, at least the Nomad is a one piece body. The old shoe box chevys are definately some of my favorite cars, and I must say Parma did a very nice job on this one.

Hey!
Nice paint work!
Question for ya, Is that the 3 piece body from Parma as shown in the link?
I picked up a 1/8th scale ONE piece 57 Chevy body, I'm not sure who made it because there are no markings on it and its heavy and solid.
I'm looking for some ideas as to how it should be painted. It came with NO decals and its going to be a challange painting it so it looks right and othentic.
I'd like to use factory paint colours or sceem to make it look as real as possable, but it may be hard to match exactly.
Any ideas?
P.S. it doesn't even have the protective covering on it either, so I'm going to have to figure out how to protect the outside while painting the inside.

Not sure, but it looks like it might be a custom body made by an individual.
To protect the outside, you can cover it with plastic shrink wrap like Saran or Glad or Reynolds, you use to wrap up food with. Or, cover the outside with LMF (liquid masking film) like Parma's.
For paint schemes, just do some research on the net and find as many pics of them as you can, stock or custom.
Make sure you use paint made for polycarbonate to ensure adhesion.
Good luck and have fun! Looks like a great project.

Sorry I didnt get back to you sooner. I have never seen a one piece 57, but it looks pretty nice from the pics. To get some paint ideas you can do a google search for 57 Chevy images, that should definately help with a stock paint scheme. And like Maxx said, lm, or cling wrap will fine for overspray. The Parma lid also does not have overspray film on it either.

Hey, no problem!
I was thinking of just using the liquid mask and just doing both sides, I'm sure that will work just fine, and your right, there is tons of pics to get some great ideas from, I already have something in mind, now to just get my azz in gear and let it rip, so to speak:cool:
