Hey, I need help.

I am planning to purchase for my son who will be a beginner in the RC hobby.
He wants a nitro truck that he can play with but also would like to start a truck pulling club with sleds. I have found that the T-Maxx has so many upgrades and the Savage has very little parts available. Which would be a better choice? I like the 4.6 motor in the Savage which will give him plenty of horsepower for pulling the sled. Anyway, HELP Please!! Jeff

Savage has so many hopups. Savage-central.com (google) Also the Savage is built so much better. I've owned a maxx and they break way more than my Savage ever has or will. You don't need much for hopups for the savage. maybe some RPM arms. I have driven this truck like no other and have only broke 1 a-arm and 3 dogbones. Cheap to fix! The carbs on the maxx' are junk to say the least. Granite, I'm one guy with this opinion but ask around. It is hard to keep a tune with the maxx. Not unless your just going to buy a new carb ($100). If your looking to hop up a rig and not bash it or drive it hard (shelf queen as we say) then you may want a maxx. Google Savage 4.6 pictures to check out some of the hopped up rides. Again, I'm not big on hopups not unless it will help the performance or strength of the rig. I love to use mine not show it. Whatever you decide remember it's all about fun and lot's of maintanenceLOL:D Love to drive it and love to keep it up:)

Both are good trucks but neither are going to be good sled pullers out of the box. I have the T-Maxx as well as the Revo and I owned the Savage. I also have 18 other cars and trucks including 1/5 scale gas. All trucks will break and require repair, it all depends on the driver and what he hits. The T-maxx is more the begginer truck and the savage is more powerful due to the big block but its also heavier.

I have never had the issue the other guy reported about the tune of the t-maxx, I actually only have to adjust the high needle slightly due to temp changes (summer to the winter). You will have to run Traxxas fuel to get the relablity I found but if you do the truck just runs. I have found most issues with guys having probles with the engine is they run them too lean. Traxxas does supply a DVD to watch that explains the tunning and the manual is very good at explain the setup and running of the truck.

As for parts, both trucks have a large selection of aftermarket parts so that is not going to be a issue.

I hope this helps a little.

Happy Holidays. I got the Savage X SS 4.6 last year as a birthday/Christmas gift. I have already spent $1000 dollars in aftermarket parts. Look at integy.com for hop-up parts or Fastlane aluminum parts. I love my truck, the experience of build the truck is great. It would be a great father & son project. I am 30 and my dad is 55, and we both got a kick out it.

Either one is prob. just as good but i'v got to stick up for my tmaxx 3.3 not strait out of the box but not with any hop ups for horsepower i push my 4 year old nephew on his pedal tractor on flat surface with feet off the pedals really good I couldn't be happier with anything else for good off road power.

I think the Savage X 4.6 is heavier duty out of the box. I think you will be fine with either truck, but the 4.6 is built with 1/8 scale drivetrain components, gears, etc. and the Maxx has 1/10 scale drivetrain components, gears, etc. I think it would probably be a better and stronger puller.

I would vote for the Savage X 4.6 myself.

both are great trucks but the tmaxx wich i have has carb leaks so just get some rc carb seal the trx 3.3 has lots of bottom end tourqe so ti should pull good but a big block is good as well but the most reliable engine is a teamassociated .28 found in a rc 8 rs so both trucks are good so buy at your price range:D

the t-maxx 3.3. that was my first truck. my friend got the savage and compare mine to him, his broke so much more then my 3.3. i was out driving and him trying to start his. i really suggest you go with a 3.3. i still love my savage though,
