ahh well my t-maxx has never really been mistreated in the engine department.. the suspenions is another story... but the engine was always well kept. i had a similar problem with my old 2.5 engine, but now on my almost brand new 3.3 engine im experiencing the same symptoms. Frying plugs, frying igniters, frying everything, it sounds likes its lean but, its not. and now i cant even get it to run. on the 2.5 i had to replace the engine and im worried i now have to do the same. i'm using Traxxas Top Fuel as recomended, could that be the problem? im not sure what to do and im think about just getting a new truck. any suggestions would help

Dude,I'm so sick of Traxxas and there cheaply made rigs. I've seen veteran racers have trouble tuning a brand new 2.5, 3.3, etc. One guy bought the 3.3 did everything by the book and had it in the shop the next day. Most guys that have tuned for years say that the Maxx carbs are junk. I can say being sold on a Maxx myself when I entered this hobby that my rig wouldn't hold a tune either. It's sad to see new enthusiasts get trapped by this Traxxas stuff. Once you sell it by a LST2, or a savage if your looking to just have fun. If you want to race check out a buggy or truggy. 1/10 scale get a Team associated GT2. These rigs hold a tune very well. My savage has never given any problems. Same fot the GT2. Don't let this get you down my friend. Sell the Maxx and get a new ride. Just my two cents and yes a lot will disagree with me and a lot will totally agree with me. Good luck on your decision:)

Get an O.S. 18 & the engine issues are gone. The rest is fine as long as you don't hit things very hard. Traxxas is not that bad. I've had all kinds of vehicles & still do. Seems they all have certain issues. My original .15 Maxx was very easy to tune & ran very well. It's still alive today.

sound like an air leak, which could be anywhere, so check your fuel line to see if there are bubbles in the fuel. Other than that ,just get an axial or O.S. and the carb troubles are gone.

my opinion is that you have an air leak. Get to RTV sealant, red devil is pretty good and you can get it at any hardware store. Pull the carb and put a light coating on the base of the carb and backing plate and the exhaust as well. I had to do this to my 2.5 and 3.3. After I did they both worked like a charm. Check out the rc driver how to's in their mag or online. It is one of the most talked about problems in nitro rc. Good luck and don't despair you have a perfectly good rig, it just requires a little TLC.

My revo 2.5r did the same thing...It was ONLY a piston and sleeve. I put in a new set, and re-broke her in, and I am still out running picco .26 engines out on the track. My engine holds a tune very well, infact, I can run all year long and only adjust the highspeed needle when there is a derastic change in temp.
I know what alot of you are saying, "You cannot out-pull a picco .26 with a trx 2.5r!!!" BullSnikies. I am running against veteran racers running revo 3.3's with the picco, os max, and a handful of other engines. I not only pull them on takeoff, but through corners, rythems, jumps, everywere. The seceret lies with a shorter chassis, better suspention setup, and better tuning ability. They got very irate when they found out what beat them, an amature, with a almost stock 2.5r.

good call pedeboi364 - sounds like an air leak to me too. They can be very frustrating as you are trying to tune the engine but nothing seems to go right. In addition, check your fuel tubing and gas tank for leaks as well. i have broken about 5 maxx tanks, they were probably the most fragile part on the truck.
MY pro 15 runs awesome, it's the engine that just won't die and my 2.5's in my revo and jato run great! i did buy another 2.5 to upgrade my maxx a while ago, and it never ran right from the day i got it. Same symptoms you are having but turns out mine was a tuning issue and a leak in the fuel line. eventually i got it going ok. It's a little picky about starting, but once going it runs strong.
yea its a air leek and go to racers edge and get some carb seal also clean out the carb but then again i ran my max 2.5 tuned or not i ran it 2 YEARS with out tuning it bit it was crap any wayes it had the same prob but yea
