I was just curious because it looks to me like they took a buggy and tweaked it a little to look like a truck. Am I correct on this?
truggys were once a 1/8 scale buggy with big tires, but they are now "built to race" monster trucks.
a buggy can be faster or slower than a truggy via different gearing/engine/tire diameter.
or do you mean faster lap times?

buggy will be lighter than a truggy and a little "faster" to drive.

Some of them are buggies with longer suspension arms and bigger tire/wheel combos, others are purpose built machines and share no parts with the buggy. I think generalizing a truggy as a buggy with larger tires is not too innaccurate, though there are subtle and distinct differences.
