I'm fairly new to the cusom painting aspect, so I was wondering how would someone like me get practice without wasting the plastic bodies?

Thre are several ways. IMO the best way is to go to Home Depot or Loews and just buy a thin sheet of lexan, use acrylic paint then after you practice you can clean it off and try again. You can also use 2 liter bottles cut open, or even blank cd cases.
