Settings up "deans connectors" could be a pain if you don't have a few items. For one, a set of vise grips or a vise. When applying the soldering iron to the connector, the red part of the connector gets hot.

Be sure to tin the wires and the tabs you'll be soldering the wires to. The males attach to the charger and ESC and the female connectors attach to the batteries.

Let me know if you have any other questions. Also, how many watts is your soldering iron?

I'm not sure I picked it up at a yard sale. i think it might be a woodburning iron

It should at least be 25 watts. Anything less could prove to be a problem..

For soldering Deans you will need:
A "Third hand" tool: http://www.amazon.com/Third-Hand-Tool-Magnifying-Glass/dp/B000UAU442

A good soldering iron. I use 100 watts because I am impatent and hate waiting for a low watt iron to heat up:

Then I also buy computer quality solder from radio shack
